He would. That's his style how he wins the fights.
His power is decent. It's just the level of opposition. Now he's fighting better technicians. He hits them flush much rearly.

Povetkin doesn't have one punch KO power but his punches thud and hurt...and his opponents are always very lumpy after he lands on them. He's not a klitschko or a Haye type puncher but when he lands, he does damage.

And I think you make a good point about him fighting technicians now who make him look worse. Hard to look good against Fast Eddie Chambers (noone has) and Jason Estrada. Bring him a more stationary target and he'll look amazing. For instance when Estrada stopped moving as well in rounds 7 or so, Povetkin took over.

Btw. I think Povetkin looked crap tonight, although he won no doubt, his main asset being pressure because of good stamina was gone.

Put Jefferson on that end and you might have had Maurice Harris KO repeated.

It's a good win for Povetking and another example that he is the best little man in the HW division. He won't grind out the super HWs the same way though. I think I would have rather seen him in with a Platov or Krasniqui. Tuning up for Wlad vs Estrada really doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

It's a good win yes, but surely putting him in against Wlad isnt much different to Wlad vs Estrada? Imo. this fight just shows that niether of them have a chance against Wlad. For Povetkin to have chance against Wlad he'd need massive conditioning which this fight shows he hasn't. Maybe a bad preparation / camp. but then again, why wouldn't he be properly prepared against a decent opponent.

He's ALWAYS tired. Is this your first time seeing him? He was wheezing against Taurus Sykes. He's just that sort of dude who looks dead at the end of every round but comes back and throws more punches.

You make it sound like he gassed out..he didn't. That's just how he is dude.

No, I have seen quite a few of his fights. To name one of recent memories is the Chambers fight, where Povetkin imo. only won because of superior stamina and constant pressuring. Chambers was the better boxer of the two, and outboxed him until he couldn't keep the pace.

Ok, let me rephrase it. Up until a certain point in the Chambers fight (5-6th I can't remember). Chambers was countering with the better shots and showing better skills, Povetkins workrate kept him in there and while Chambers was fading he kept his workrate up, which is the point I tried to make. Work rate based on good stamina is Povetkins force, and it was not so good tonight, although he won, it didnt look so good.

Must be because of his long absence to the ring, he looked rusty. he also looked inconfident in his abilities and thought Estrada's speed gave him trouble early on...from round 7-8 on, he got into his mood...still, I think that this fight shook of the ring rust and then fighting Dimitrenko prepares him as good as it gets for a fight vs. Wald...

Povetkin is one tough, mean SOB, but he looks like a puffy kid.

Surprisingly,Pianeta and Sosnowski put up a better and more courageous show of boxing that Povetkin and Estrada. Pianeta vs Sosnowski was pure fun to watch. I very much hope that they will be a rematch.
A rusty Povetkin didnt put his best foot forward, and Estrada wasnt just able to beat someone like Povetkin.
As for the young German based Italian Pianeta he nailed his true colours to the mast in today's fight in my opinion. He was better than I had tought before.Props to him and the Pole for their classy encounter! One of the best heavy weight fights I ve seen within the last couple of months!
Pianeta still has to learn one or two things, but the young lad has talent and a huge heart!:good
