He's starting to get this Emmanuel Steward type fame ... he's not that great of a trainer and he's never built a fighter from the ground up he usually works with fighters who are already pretty good fighters when the meet him.

I agree. He's got particularly cocky after Pac beat the corpse of Delahoya.

There is a new movement in Boxing now which sees trainers being massively over praised as if they are sorcerers or divine prophets of the Boxing Gods. Its ridiculous.

I give Roach mad props on his guidance of Pac. Hes helped him face fighters either at the end of their peak or not peaked at all like Diaz. Honestly that is some good management.

Freddie Roach is more than just a trainer, It's the involvement with his fighter's that separates him.
(Plus the fact that he fight's his own body everyday is enough to give any fighter the motivation they need to go in the gym and train their as off)

I defo can't hate on Roach.

He's overrated to hell. Pac is who he is cause of Pac. Any half decent trainer would have had a world beater on their hands with Manny.

    hmm says....

He's a great trainer and not overrated imho... sure he can get a bit cocky but he's been the same Roach pre/ post Barrera I. In addition, I don't think he's trying to get the credit... He himself stated that "trainers receive too much credit and most of the credit goes to the fighter... I'm just their as a guide." (I think it was in one of the ESB articles) All he does is refine his fighters... Keeps their style and just polishes them up and fix their flaws.

Also, very rarely do we see trainers train a fighter from scratch. Most great fighters usually "graduate" and are taken into the wing of better trainers in hopes of further, improving their career. So it's pretty normal to make the argument..."who has he trained from scratch?" or "the fighter was already great without him." etc.....

I have no doubt that Freddie Roach is a good coach, but the way he is being cocky and is beginning to talk trash about pacmans opponents,is foolish.
I have allways liked roach because, when i have watch him in interviews,he has been humble and respectfull.
But some of the things he have said recently, have changed that.
quotes like:" if manny don“t stop Hatton in 3 rounds,i will be mad".
I know that everybody is trying to hype this fight up,and saying this and that....
But Freddy Roach should be a little bit smarter than that.He have said a lot of things lately, that just changed my mind about him.
I wonder what Roach would say IF Hatton Knocked Pac out in round 2....In this fight anything can happen.:bbb

All trainers are overrated or underrated. They don't impact the fight anywhere near as much as people like to think they do.

They are just easy scapegoats to blame, or easy people to praise as the difference in a fight.

He's alright, I just hate when he says "You need to retire."
