Both men have assets that trouble the other. Buchanan has one of the all-time best jabs at the weight and could fight tall -- Mosley has had trouble dealing with tall jabs.

Mosley is explosive and dangerous in the exchanges, and Buchanan typically exchanged more than he needed to in most of his fights.

    Who ya got?

    Buchanan is a great fighter

I think he can keep himself in the middle of the ring and use his straight punches to pile up the points however he trades abit too much and loses afew rounds but goes on to take a UD in a surprisingly great fight

I like Shane Mosely a lot and he's one of my very favorite of today's fighters, but Ken Buchanan was a step above him, and would have won a close decision over 15 rounds, IMO. He would have been too mobile and tough at the same time for Shane. By tough, I mean that, based on his ability to take what ever Duran dished out and still hang in there, until the very controversial ending, it spoke of Buchanan's toughness as well as his well known skill as a boxer. Ken was able to navigate the 15 round distance so very well, and I think he would have edged Shane narrowly in points.

I really think it's irrelevent if he could take Duran's best, seeing as the power gap between Roberto and Mosley is massive.

Mosley was a near MW in there throughout his career. I don't see him stopping Buchanan, but still.

With day before weigh ins where Mosley can come in at 160 (which he did at LW), Shane would batter Buchanon. Assuming size isn't a factor for a miniute though, Buchanon has the better technical skills and better defense. Mosley is the faster more athletic fighter, better combination thrower, better workrate, Mosley also has the more power/strength (P4P aswell as the fact he simply weighs more). Even if Mosley wasn't massively bigger I see him wearing Buchanon down but not quite stopping him

You think the gap in power at lightweight between Duran and Mosley is 'massive' in SSM's favour?

    :-(

Shane Mosley's power has become overrated after his destructive victory over the previously never stopped Antonio Margarito.

My arguement would be, if any elite fighter lands that many consistent flush shots on any fighters chin, eventually they will be going down.

Roberto Duran would have done the same thing.

I think he is referring more to Mosley's lightweight wipeout of a succession of mediocre, old, small and just plain poor title challengers.

Yes, Mosley had great power at lightweight. But his opposition was feeble, and this obviously made it look like he was a mini Bob Foster.

Duran had excellent power at lw.

You could argue over who had better power between him and Mosley, but the point is that even if it was Mosley, the gap was not "massive". A gross exaggeration IMO.

In fairness to Shane Mosley, he'd probably clean out the division if he was at 135lb today. He carried his power fairly well up at 147lb, so his power at Lightweight was obviously legitimate.

You're correct, though. Duran beat and stopped better opposition at Lightweight, and also successfully moved up in weight to stop some accomplished fighters himself.

Er, you think the guy that gave Padilla ****ing career ending brain damage and just stopped the iron chinned Maragrito at nearly the age of 40 (Maragrito, as in the nearly MW Margarito)

I sure as **** think Mosley could, say, affect Barkley far more then Duran did.

Mosley was a beast at LW in terms of power and although his competition was relatively weak so was Duran's at LW, Buchanon and Dejesus at LW aside and he wasn't making those 2 go jelly legged either. All the same Mosley's 10 straight stoppage wins from Holiday-DLH is impressive stuff

Based on what exactly? I personally don't think Mosley was a bigger puncher than Duran at all, just more explosive.

You'd admit that Mosley is far faster, yes? Speed only compliments power.

I think you overrate the hell out of Mosley, or at least his power. Prior to his stoppage over Margarito he really hadn't done anything of note in terms of power punching above LW outside of his wins over a fat Vargas. He's clearly a big puncher, but I think the win over Margarito proved how overrated Marg's chin was more than anything, though it was still an excellent performance from Mosley.
