I recently started boxing again and I am working out all the kinks as I have been off for a few years. My knees are killing me, I am about 80 lbs over weight so there is a lot of impact. None of the tissue is sore its just the bones on the insides of my legs just below my knee caps. It doesn't hurt to bend my knees and really only aches mildly when I walk and I have a hard time "sometimes:" going up stairs, and skipping also seem to be a chores. Now I would describe the pain as aching only. Has anyone else experinced this before?
Even without being overweight one can get sore knee's from all the running and rope skipping. I would recommend to you that you first drop the weight before adding the plyo type training such as rope jumping. One fighter in particular (Juan Diaz) doesn't run at all because of the pounding his knee's take and he is a lightweight! Instead he uses the stairmaster. Try the less abusive routes until you drop a bit more weight and then incorporate skipping and running on alternate days.
thanks for the info, problem is I am in the army so I basically got to run lol. But I will cut it down a bit.
With that much extra weight it's not hard to see why your knees can't take the abuse. Cycling is less injury prone and burns loads of calories, perhaps that's an idea until you get some weight off.
If you can get to a pool, swimming is great non-impact exercise too. It will really help you take off the extra weight and improve stamina.
good footwear might be helpful.....or good inserts in your boots if you have to run in them? Could be any number of things. I got sore kness at one point and it made me examine the way i was running and i found that i was actually stomping my feet down rather than running heel to toe. I was fine after that. The best thing may be to go see a foot doctor (podiatrist?) and run it by him.
