What are the chances that there will be a lot of holding in the Pac-Hatton fight?

Pacquiao is never in a dull fight but Hattons last fight was a bit bad. I know Malignaggi was doing most of the holding but Hatton does have a tendency to do it since its part of his inside game.

    What do you think?

Hit and Hold is tried and trusted tactic for Hatton so he might try it now and again but dont put HATTON IN THE same bracket as Ruiz. Hatton does rough you up on the inside with his sickening body shots.

    Very important question.

Based on the grabbing and clinching I saw Pacquiao do against De La Hoya + the clinching Malignaggi did against Hatton - alot of sophmoric idiots who don't follow the sport as closely as most of us here will be surprised to see Pacquiao initiating most if not all of the clinching. The cat was already out of the bag in the Malignaggi fight anyhow though.

Hatton will have little chance of grabbing Manny on his end anway. Pacquiao is going to twist and fight like a **** victim whenever Hatton tries to move in.

I just have this vision of Hatton trying to get close to land hooks to Pacquiao's body, and Pacquiao trying to land straight lefts down the pipe as Hatton closes the distance. I'm very interested in how this match goes.

This phrase "...let Hatton hold..." has a certain connotation. If you're saying what I think you are; no, I don't think this is going to look anything like some of those Hatton hugfests we love so much.

Pacquiao is going to do everything possible not to get trapped - but that's Manny to begin with, you know? Pacquiao has never been a big fan letting people grab or clinch him - even to his own detriment. Even if Manny's legs break off from all the moving and direction changes he'll keep going on bloody nubs if he has to. To go along with that; Hatton isn't going to have the same need he's had at times to hug it for multiple reasons - which I'm too bored with myself to type..

Also, I'd say there's an excellent chance we're going to see Pacquiao in a far more than expected aggressive mode similiar to the way Mosley and Hopkins looked in their last fights..

How do you see it, E?

You make some very good interesting points raf. I also believe Pacquiao will try to avoid clinching and being clinched and just explode everytime he has the chance. Interesting how you say Pac is going to be even more aggressive to usual. Do you say this because of Hattons style?

Yes, it's specific. It was no accident that Pavlik and Margarito were chosen for premptive counter-offensive assaults. Hatton is in that same family of perpetual stalkers, and perpetual stalkers are much easier to blitz than any other style. Pacquiao can blitz his ass off as we all know - it will be extremely natural for him. All Roach has to say is "sick em."

We'll see though... We don't know who is bluffing for what, or what the **** is going on at this point. Hatton is saying "...I pray Pacquiao comes after me..." and Roach is saying "...We'll KO Hatton in 3..." Somebody is bluffing obviously. If these ****ers give us Hagler/Hearns II I'll hit a stroke right there in front of the family, but I seriously ****ing doubt it.

Once they get warmed up and people start getting through it's on, of course, and I expect Manny to be alot more offensive than I think even Hatton probably does at this point.

The general perception is that Hatton is the bigger man here who needs to get close and maul, beat, and out-muscle Pacquiao on the inside. So I'm thinking Ricky knows this and will do a lot of holding and hitting as usual. It won't be too excessive though to the point where it takes away from the action. I'm prety sure there will be a lot of great lands and exchanges in between all of Hatton's hugging.

Exactly as long as it doesnt go from exciting exchanges from the inside to a boring hugfest.
