Just Letting Everyone Know... Im Nervous About Saturday

When one of my favorite fighters is about to step into the ring after the national anthems sometimes my hands start shaking man......

 

Kellerman does completely over do it.

 

i'm seeing a lot of polarized expressions of favoritism to the tune of...paul williams is going to school the ring-rusted, undersized, over-ripe wright...or winky is going to box the ears off of the green, overrated kid who won't be able to handle the pressure and poise and deceptive physical strength of winky.

however, what i am not hearing a lot of is admissions that this fight is, in some large way, a toss up with too many unknowns to call without hesitation. this is a tough call. and, i expect, it will not be a wash for whoever ends up the winner...it looks to be a tough fight that will include hard going for both of these terrific fighters who are on opposite ends of the arcs of their careers, but, perhaps, in that way, evenly matched. it's hard to say.

i expect it to be close and go to the scorecards.

all things considered, i think that no matter how sharp winky is, no matter how well he turns his punches off the ropes to counter, no matter how much handspeed he retains, no matter how well he beats up williams' slender trunk on the inside, works the uppercuts, winky will struggle to overcome either the jabbing or the hooks from range that come out of that wingspan of williams that is around 80-inches if i am not mistaken. williams can always retreat to range and use it to his advantage...which is his advantage in this fight and has been in most fights in his career.

conversely, no matter how well paul williams uses, closes and opens range with his punches, unless he knocks winky cold early (which is highly unlikely because wright has an excellent chin and better poise and anticipation), williams is going to find himself struggling to out-think the hugely ring wise wright during awkward tangles, inside banging and those pensive, tricky moments fought at a distance when the younger man will very likely be hesitant to pull the trigger because he cannot figure the coming moves of his veteran opponent.

I wouldn't be the least bit nervous. Winky's done. I'm almost certain of it.

you should be nervous..winky is no walk in the park for williams. And so far this year we have been seeing all these old fighters beating the **** out of the younger generation(i.e mosley-margo,jmm-diaz)

 

i learned the hard way

whenever i watch a fight and i actually want a particular fighter to win they usually wind up losing (my favorite or someone i like)...

williams - quintana 1

i cant remember any others in particular but when i watch a fight my guys lose....

but then when i watch the fight later on tivo or on demand or whatever my guys win

i didnt even watch them live... i tivo them and then watch them after... call it a good luck charm ... theres been a lot of other fights but i dont even remember them all off hand

 

the difference is that these old fighters have been active at the top level and have always been in great shape. Hopkins 6 months before fighting PAvlik lost a SD to Joe Calzaghe. Mosley 4 months before Margarito knocked out Mayorga. Winky lost against Hopkins in a fight where he was kind of out of shape and that was almost 2 years ago. His last W is in 2006.

 

They only question I have is how much does Winky have left. Williams is counting on Winking not being the same fighter he used to be, but Winky does not have to be a full 100% to beat Williams. However, that fight will probably go to a decision. Judges and ref? Guess who they like?

 

people think of winky as the guy who beat up trinidad ...what...nearly 4 or 5 years ago?
the guy has fought in 2 years and is 37-38 years old...Paul Williams is gonna punch him around the ring..... winky aint winky anymore......get it?

 

Winky could not beat an old Hopkins. Winky has been inactive. The reach of Williams will offset anything Winky can do. I see Williams outboxing Winky.
