Did anyone see Joe Bugner v Bone Crusher Smith for the WBF Heavy weight belt? It was a real shameful event. Gods knows what the promoters were thinking. I think the World Boxing Federation finished not long afterwards, but came back as the World Boxing Foundation
Looking back, you could make a case for James Toney (53-2-2) v Montell Griffin (25-0) for the WBU light-heavyweight championship of the world, with Griffin winning by UD and then in his next fight beating the undefeated Roy Jones Jr by DQ. Surely Griffin must've been pretty high in the Lb-for-Lb ratings at that time, after 2 victories over Toney and the Jones win. In his next fight Toney went on to fight Mike McCallum (49-4-1) for the vacant WBU world cruiserweight championship.
