Manny Pacquiao is not a cherry picker. That wasn't what I was saying. Prime Juan Manuel Marquez poses more of a threat than David Diaz, or any weight drained fighter. Just my view.

not to be too off topic but what is Roachs style of teaching? Like Floyd Sr puts emphasis on defense and counterpunching while Emanuel Stewart likes an emphasis on using the jab and fighting on the outside. What does Roach emphasize?
He teaches defense mainly, and proper, aggressive offensive technique. His fighters are always in shape.
it's only been two fights since that rematch w/ jmm. certainly, pac deserves a break after that great war w/ marquez. diaz was a good, decent B level opponent and in his prime. as for dlh, nobody refuses a fight w/ him given the money involved. dlh did agree to fight @147 and it was his team's fault of having the wrong weight strategy of making 147. they made 147 too early with one month to go before the fight. as a result, his own team virtually shrunk dlh from a natural 154-lb fighter to a small welter come fight time. you certainly can't blame pac for the mistake team dlh did to themselves. pac just fights the guy in front of him.
I heard him say during interviews, he said that he doesnt try to overhaul his fighter's fighting style, he just corrects the major mistakes and tries to keep them sharp and physically prepared. If youre a natural brawler, he prepares you as a brawler, with tweaks and adjustments here and there to improve your chances of winning. If youre a natural counterpuncher-boxer, the training camp prepares you as a counterpuncher too. His wildcard gym is not a cookie cutter type of boxing school, where they impose their signature style at you. It's kinda more of like a mechanic's garage, and they just do tune-ups and some modifications to improve performance.
I believe there are good boxers and good trainers out there. But you can have a great trainer and great boxer that don't work well together. Once in while the right boxer finds the right trainer for him, and that's when the magic happens.
That is the great thing about Roach, he can work with different styles, he doesn't teach every boxer the same thing. take Amir khan for example, Khan got a pure china chin, so Roach is working on his foot work and defense, making him harder to hit.
I dont think Roach is cocky....Just recently he said "Trainers are overrated, Im overrated, Pac made me look good..Its the fighters who should be given the credit.."
i agree with you,,a fine man against all the odds as for him becoming cocky????-he's the least so out of all the trainers i know of. are we going to not allow a hard working man a moment to bask in the glory of his hard work?
