Nor would he be in mine but im not discussing any list. Beating Berbick at 20 is one dam achievement though, many boxers were in their infancy at that age
Interesting to note that Tyson stated himself that it was good many of his fights didnt go long cause he had lung problems.
Sorry Leon.. I thought you were filling my nappy. Mate, Jack Johnson has a very close relationship with a few of Louis' opponents, plus a major influence on journo's at the time. Nat Fliescher being another who noted most of JJ's words. Johnson was at a particular Louis fight, might have been against Tommy Farr, 1st defence, and Johnson was asked of Louis' liabilities.. Jack immediately said 'foot work'. Just as well Louis could absorb a punch, and throw a better response, because he was a flat footed man.
Personally I think that prime LL starts as favourite over Mike. Lewis brings everything to the table that James Smith, Tony Tucker etc etc does and a whole lot more. Lewis would fight smart and cautious and it'd be boring as hell but he'd get a decision. As for taking Mike over Joe Louis, it's with your money, not mine.
Yeah he was a very flat footed man. This had its upside in that he threw some very beautiful accurate punches when in range. Picture perfect punches. Ippy gonna jump all over this but i think Vitali Klit would give Tyson some huge trouble aswell.
Absolutely. Tyson faded late in a fight. Joe kept bringing it. I'd take Frazier in a dog fight over Mike any day.
Id take Tyson over Louis for sure.. I bet with the wallet, not the heart. Just for interests sake, can you name a Louis opponent that would seriously trouble Tyson? An early 20's Tyson?? :good
No, I actually agree with you. Styles make fights. Klit is a tall rangy mofo with a serious whack. He would definitely present Tyson with problems.
I'd like to see how Tyson would've handled the likes of Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles. What about the same question, but in reverse?
If he was holding on to Mike like he thought he was his prom date in 89, he'd be DQ'd for what Louis would do to him. On top of that, Frank gassed all the time. Joe would eat him up and spit him out. Next...
Possibly. At least both would turn up in shape (unlike Holmes for that one) and mentally ready to fight, unlike Spinks.
