Is a low blow a good thing for a boxer to do when they're losing?

Look at Tito/Vargas. Vargas was handing Tito his ass, when Tito loaded up on El Terrible's nutsack. It changed momentum in that fight.

If you're a trainer and your fighter's losing, would you instruct him to gun one low?

In a sportsmanship sense obviously not. From changing the fight, it can have an affect, other times your going to get yourself disqualified or get a point taken for no reason.

    Good? No.

    Effective? Depends. It can backfire.

If its something like Tszyu's pitty pat shoe shine on the belt against Hatton it seemed a good tactic in that it got Vann to stop the fight for a bit.

But you run the risk that your opponent will respond with a free windup bell ringer monster shot directly to the nuts as Hatton did.

I think sometimes it has its merits. And if you feel it can help you in a bad situation why not?

Does anybody count repeated hip shots throughout the fight as low blows?

Low blows being thrown by the guy who's winning always pisses me off.

The first thing that popped into my head when i saw the thread was the cheato/vargas fight.. Just when u thought the tides were changing, Tito would comeback with the most obvious low blow ( totally intentional ) and would turn the tables again.. **** that.

    Tito knows all about it.
