Is a low blow a good thing for a boxer to do when they're losing?

Yup Cotto/Judah is another example.. Everytime he was in trouble, he'd aim for Judah's nuts.. how ironic..

Cheato probably gave him that advice before the fight.

If you are Ricky Hatton fighting in Manchester, its no big thing. Just fire away low, on purpose, with the worst intentions. Your fans will even cheer as your opponent is keeled over.

If you have an Oakland Raider mentality the answer is yes. Back in the day the Raiders would commit a "personal foul" (Punch in the throat, kick in the shins..) and pay a 15 yard penalty  Well worth it to intimidate the other guy:yep Same theory applies in boxing especially if you're ahead on the scorecards and happen to get hurt with a lucky punch. Yeah, I'd consider a low blow but then again I'm from Oakland.:D

but hatton didn't do it to gain the upper hand in the fight because he was losing, it was pure retaliation.

No, because it is a wussy way of fighting, and boxing is supposed to be about gentlemanship, and the best boxer winning, not the best wrestler. A low blow is really something from wrestling, something Ric Flair would do. If I was a referee, and I saw a boxer who was losing do a vicious lowblow on purpose, I would DQ him right then and there.

Now, on the other end of the spectrum, you have fighters that will fake that they were hit low, and to me, that is just as wussy. I hate fighters that fake lowblows, just to get a breather. Bhop pulled that crap against Calzaghe, and I'll never forget it. Everyone says how great bhop is for fighting and beating a smaller Pavlik, but I am not a follower because of one fight, I still remember that wussy faking of a low blow just so he wouldn't get Ko'd by Calzaghe.

That would be the Lyle Alzado , Chester,Tatum, Ben Davidson, Goose days.....now we get needless, brain-dead and pointless 15 yard penalties that intimidates only the Raider coach himself.

But, that will turn around this year.....I hope!!!!!
