Miguel Cotto has issued a statement to the press concerning his incident with his uncle/trainer. The same, revealed through El Nuevo Dia Newspaper states the following…”This afternoon, after concluding my training session for my next fight, I sustained an incident with my uncle Evangelista Cotto. This is a family and very personal matter, which is why I ask that you give me the space and respect in my intimacy needed to cope with situation. Let it be known that as of this moment Evangelista Cotto will no longer form part of my corner, but at the same time, you should all rest assured that I will continue to work tirelessly for my next scheduled fight in June, where I will successfully defend my title with pride for all Puerto Ricans.”

    Thoughts?

To put this in realistic terms.

"Me and Evangelista had I fight. I ****ed him up. He's not in my corner anymore. I'll be fighting Clottey still...dassit."

Honestly the real question is how will things work now with Cotto and Bob Arum? Without his uncle chiming in does Cotto take more control of his decisions? Or will we see him conceed more to The Bob Father?

I think hes better without that hot head in his corner. He should call up Joe Gossen.

This prob happens all the time between them, just this time is was seen in public.
Sounds like alot of personal **** has/is going down between them. (behind the scenes)

Best thing for them is to just squash this ****. by cutting off ties for a while.
Now only thing Miguel better worry about is Evangelista pressing charges.

true but against Clottey he shouldnt be so aggressive and take out too much frustration against a counterpuncher like Joshua, even if Clottey doesnt have KO power, Cotto's chin isnt anywhere near AM chin.....we'll see though :good

you know all the haters are going to come in here saying that if Cotto was so mentally tough, why did he take a knee............i can see them posting right now

Normally I don't give much weight towards distractions like this one before a fight, but throwing down with you uncle/trainer and then firing his ass?! I mean damn, that kind of **** could affect any fighter in any fight. Kind of gets you worried if you're a backer of Cotto.

tell me about it J.R. - as a Cotto fan i'm shittin bricks over here . i was just going to reply with something similar to what you wrote, i mean, normal arguments dont lead to cement blocks shattering your car's window or you having to fire a close family member like that...this is ugly :-( cant wait to read up more about it.

I'm not too worried. Cotto might like to drink it up and party but he's still a professional. Hell, look at what happened when Buster Douglas's mother died, or when Shane Mosley got divorced from Jin. Sometimes turmoil forces you to bring out your best.

i wonder if the cement block that Evangelista threw at Cotto's car was the same one Margarito tried to use against Mosley or quite possibly the same one he might've used against Cotto....:huh:deal
