Maybe "Cut" is the wrong word. What he did was run 15 miles a day and train like a maniac and suck all the fat out of him and show up under 190lb, but I think all the training he did he probably loss some muscle mass as well. running that many miles a day does nothing but eat way your muscle tissue i know from experience.
Rocky was naturally well over 200lb, this is not an opinion its a fact.

Ok, but if you get critical on him again...dont expect me to just sit there and not respond. If you don't want to hear it, then you don't have to comment on marciano anymore. But overally, please feel free to comment on him. why won't you be critical of Sonny Liston, give me something easy and fun to argue about one of my favorites? Call me a "Huge Liston Worshipper" please.

Of course modern Heavyweights are over 200 lbs. By today's weight classes, they would be Cruiserweights if they fought under that weight!

If a fighter, like Rocky Marciano, was fighting today, is there anyone here who thinks he would stay in the Cruiserweight Division...or would he bulk up to over 200 pounds and compete as a Heavyweight? My bet is he would go where the money is! :yep

Suzie, I agree with what you're saying, but you're not going to find much success trying to share that point with posters on this website because most of them are set in their ways.

Wow, that's a broad brush you are painting with.

And I'm not so sure about Tyson's "islander gene" or plain old Italian genes (Italian is a nationality not a race) being predisposed to thinner bone sets.

Anyhow, onward and upward with inane remarks.

The thought was at the time that heavys should train no less than the other weights...Tyson only once Ko'd a man after the 8th rd. and that was Ribalta a journey man..Tua showed up in shape a few times but there were times he was 50 lbs overweight and slow and lethargic

I think that part of the reason why Marcianos weight was so low is the emphasis on roadwork in his training regime. The guy trained harder than most fighters who fought in 45 rounders. I think that even without adding muscle it is possible to imagine Marciano coming in at or around 200 lbs.

On the other hand I do think that he would always have been a bit more slimline than Tyson or Tua. Expect the iron pumping Marciano to come in at around 210 lbs ar oposed to 220 for my money. Bear in mind that Tyson did not need to use weights to get to 215.

I agree! With the Cruiserweight division around, and 12 round title fights, 200-210 pounds is about where Rocky would be.

First of all I happen to love Marciano. I don't know how I allowed myself to become anti-Rocky as I feel he was one of the most courageous fighters to ever enter the ring ... SQ makes a good point about commenting or not ... it's all in good debating manner ... lot's of strong opinions here ....

I don't have the picture, but I saw Floyd Patterson's fight with George Chuvalo, with Marciano, Patterson, and 2 other people in studio rewatching the fight the week after Floyd's fight. Marciano made them all look tiny. Patterson looked like a middleweight next to him, and was smaller in all aspects.
