THey never fought, does anyone know why Jiro refused to fight Galaxy???

Who would've won and how would they fare today? I go for Watanabe via decision.

Watanabe was stripped when he opted to unify rather than defend gainst Galaxy who was his mandatory and relatively unknown at the time.

Thanks for clearing that up, did Watanabe retire shortly after? Can't see why he wou;dn't fight Galaxy when he was destroying everyone?

Anyway, how does everyone see it going, either prime for prime or at the time it was mooted?

He fought on for about 2 years and had about five title fights.

You don't see that many unification fights from asian champions.glaxy never fought any of the other champions once he picked up a belt.

So how good was Watanabe then?

Watching his fight against Suk Hwan Yun. Impressed so far.

Watanabe is actually at the end of the road by that time.

he was a great technical boxer-puncher, but could get lazy and overconfident at times.Wasn't the best of trainers either.

as long as he was at his best i would pick him over Galaxy, who was too slow of foot and methodical to get to him enough imo.

    I agree.

Watanabe prime for prime, but Galaxy is probably wrong for Jiro once past prime. Would have been interesting though.
