yeah i mean top 5 in the division... i mean lets take a look at it... im just going to start at lightweight cause i personally dont really care about anything under

lightweight- jmm, guzman, casa, juan diaz, valero
    light welter- urango,bradley,campbell, pacqiou, hatton
    welter- clottey,cotto,berto,mosley,margarito
    light middle-kirkland,dzdinurik,forrest,santos, paul williams
    middleweight-pavlik, aa, sturm, mundine, gaele
supermid-jermain taylor, froch, kessler, bute, bika
light heavy- dawson, bhop, rjj, tarver, glen johnson
cruiser- adamek, cunningham, huck, jones, afolobi
hw-wlad klit, vit klit, dave haye, chagaev, valuvev

to say if you were a boxer in one of these 9 divisions and you were to get a victory over one of these fighters & not calling them elite..... would be robbing & down playing a fighter of a very important victory

so like i said.... in current terms any top 5 fighter in a division should be acknowledged as elite.... **** to be honest most of these guys are all B- - A level fighters

Cotto is elite, period. This is not really an arguable point.

Damn I have been lost, what did they fight again?

Is he not going to be in his corner for Clottey?

Yea he is. Cotto is one of the best fighters today. He has ways to go before anyone can say he is a all time elite but dude is still young. He still has plenty of fighting left in him to continue on his path as one of the best fighters around, if he continues to win big fights.

Overall he is elite, but the one I don't like is his recent excuses for his lost to Margarito.
He should just admit he lost because his conditioning was not at the elite level.

What do you mean by elite? He's not an ATG (yet), but certainly a top fighter, even if he has flirted with KO often enough.

They got into a fst fight at the gym and Eva cut Cotto's nose (not sure how) and then he went over to Cotto's house and threw a brick at Cotto and it hit Cotto's car instead. Cotto fired Eva as his trainer. But the fight is still on with Clottey.

you become Elite when you beat an A level (Elite) fighter. just at lightweight, i don't consider casa, juan diaz and valero as Elite (A level). at light-welter, uramgo, bradley aren't elite. i consider both guzman and campbell as borderline Elite. and so on up the weight classes.

take pac's case for example. he was already a 2-weight and 1-time lineal champ but not Elite before fighting barrera in 03. barrera was certainly a p4p Elite (p4p#3) when he fought pac in 03. pac finally became not only Elite but a P4P Elite with his KO victory against barrera in 03.

pac is a top 50... thats what im saying....

your thinking about all time elite

im just talking about elite in the year 2009... like if we were to look at juan diaz of today (april 09 2009) 10 years from now.... he would be one of the top fighters in boxing.... but 10 years from now i doubt juan diaz will be an all time elite fighter

for you to say to become an elite fighter you have to be another elite fighter (a rated) is also crazy because how many elite (A rated fighters) are even aroudn today?

    floyd-bhop-pac-calzahge-

thats really it... so only a small handful even have the chance to become so called "elite" by your standards because they are restricted by weight... not only that but the 4 guys i mentioned rarely fight anyways... its not like when they were younger when they were fighting 3-4 times a year

no. i'm not talking about all time Elite. i'm talking about Elite in the current sense. that's why i rate boxers being A+ (P4P ELite), A (Elite), B, C and so on. all of this is based on how I look upon their ability currently. that's why I say that a fighter should beat a current Elite (A level) fighter to become currently Elite (A level) himself. and yeah, according to my criteria, only a few fighters currently can become Elite. that's why they're called that in the first place.

take for example barrera's case. certainly he is an All-time Elite fighter. but currently, i'm not even sure if he's Elite (A level) anymore.
