Hey paddy, do you think you could ask John Duddy whether or not he is tempted to drop down to light-middle in order to mount a world title shot against vernon forrest or daniel santos, and maybe try get it staged in The o2 like bernard dunne did... I know its not exactly an easy thing to negotiate, but Peters and Dunne pulled it off so why not Duddy??

Paddy I would ask him myself but i'm going out for a few drinks tonight and wont be near a landline, it would probably get messy trying to talk on a mobile phone in a bar!! Great show by the way I nearly always tune in..

Not the first time it's happened a little while back at Cruiserweight they had Haye as Super-Champ, Virgil Hill as Ordinary and Firat Arslan as interim.

This Salthill show looks like it's being run by a bunch of cowboys, there behaviour on boards.ie has shown that and imo there's only a point in supporting boxing if it's done right. We don't need promotions that will put the public off the sport and at the prices they are charging €70 or €50 for what they are showing.

The card originally had Coleman Barrett v Vlado Szabo(2-34-0) as the main event, although boxrec don't have that fight up anymore possibly because of the bad reputation the card was getting for having a match up like that.
However if Barrett faces another fighter I doubt it'll be anyone better.

The other fighters currently on the bill are Danny Reynolds v TBA, to be fair Reynolds is pretty decent but whoever he fights will probably get stopped in 1 as Reynolds is a big puncher and your average journeyman(which is what I'd expect to be imported) won't last with him long).

John Waldron 1-1, completes the card. That's only 3 fights listed and a lot of Keith Walkers shows in the past only have 3 fights on them so don't be surprised if you pau your €50 and what you get is those 3 fighters in with poor foreign imports and your night is over in less than an hour.

If you want to go to a show I'd wait till the week after and go to Gary Hyde's show down in Cork on Saturday the 25th. The 3 Cubans are fighting and all against decent opposition and the two Irish fighters on the card are of a better standard than the two on the card in Salthill, the tickets will probably be cheaper aswell.

Alternatively for those of you who see Cork as too far a trip you should probably just wait for the Rogan fight the month after in Belfast.
Everyone's got their own will but if you go to the Galway promotion you'll probably feel like a bit of an idiot afterwards.

Edit: just seen there's 6 names announced for the Salthill promotion:
    Coleman Barrett
    Declan Timlin
    Colm Keane
    Gavin Prudy(debut)
    John Waldron

I'd guess Reynolds will be part of the other fight.
Still I don't reckon they'll be getting two many top opponents on 10 days notice, and their planned Ireland v England scheme will be difficult(unlikely) to achieve. Odd that Francie has said that's what their doing when originally Coleman was scheduled to fight the man they called 'Slovak Rambo'(because Rambo losses 34 out of 36 fights when he's from Slovakia). Shame that fight mightn't go ahead, after Barrett's been 'knocking out all these Russians in sparring', and when his real record is '13-0'. someone should tell boxrec.

Getting national coverage in the indepedent is how you should promote an event, telling lies, creating aliases to help spread those lies, and abusing people on internet forums is not how you promote an event.

What's even worse is they took us for idiots, 'knocked out another Russian', yet no names are named. What do they expect, us to go 'oh wow, a Russian, he must be good !', telling us his record is 13-0, as if we wouldn't know that's not true. Then they created an alias when their lie was exposed who claimed Barrett had beat their 'cousin' and also beating 'an englishman who died in a motorcyle crash'. The person claiming that had the same ip address as the person who started the thread.
It infuriates me to think that they actually believe people were stupid enough to be fooled about that.
I hope it hasn't worked on the local population in Salthil but I suspect it's a lot easier to get away with selling bull**** to average joe public than it is to people who are boxing fans, so it probably did work :(

Paddy, ask him where his left hook went to - i know he is trying to improve his defense but he needs to put some manners into the opponent and he used to do that with the left hook. The jab is impressive but its not enough to keep the big guns at bay.

what about the ulster hall show on the same night as the show in cork....surely your not suggesting that any fight in cork that night is on a par with lindsay-appleby.

Your right can't believe I forgot about Martin Lindsay(I always do, and it's starting to really **** me off). With that said Hayemaker haven't been doing a great job promoting this one which is why the date slipped my mind.

Obviously Lindsay v Appleby is the big fight, doesn't look like anymore Irish fighters will be on the bill but that'll still be the big one of the night.

I suggest people go to whichever of those promotions they can, both will be well run and both are positive for Irish boxing.

I'm not gonna tell people to go to one or the other of those, as it'll probably just be decided on which show is closer to people.

These shows will divide Ireland!!!but in a good way i suggest everyone above Galway Athlone Kildare be made go to belfast to suport Martin and everyone below be made head for Cork.We can all meet in the middle after and discuss the goings on.Seriously though both shows will be good for the boxing fans.Cant wait.:thumbsup
