rjj has been my guy since i was a kid and i really REALLY want him to hang'em up. he has nothing at all to prove and is an all time great. but something tells me he will take a lacy fight. despite his age and diminishing skill set, rjj would beat lacy. lacy isnt a big name or an up and coming name but he is a recognizable name which is probably just want rjj wants so he can remain "relevant" anyone else see rjj taking lacy up on this?? (rico, go hang out somewhere else if you are just gonna make a glass jaw comment)
It would just be another handpicked faded opponent similar to Sheika. Sad thing is even this version of Lacy could shatter Roy's fragile Glass Jaw.
Roy Jones should call out Bhop or Dawson. The reason is, because he would beat both Bhop and Dawson, easily. That powerful leading straight right hand would Ko dawson, and it would rule Bhop all 12 rounds. Styles make fights folks.
Roy is still pretty fast, and would be able to see Lacy loading up on his shots..... Even though Roy is shot to bits (beyond shot IMO) he could become the 1st man to stop Lacy.
I could see him (RJJ) going for it. I don't think he would have anything to fear from Lacy and agree that it would make sense from RJJ's perspective to fight a recognisable name with little risk.
and that is what worries me. he needs to retire but beating lacy (which he will) will convince him to keep going :verysad
RJJ is an all-time favorite of mine too and I hated seeing him fall to the likes of Tarver, Calzaghe and Johnson when we all know that in his prime he will fry the likes of those. Won't be surprised at all if he takes the Lacy fight, even at this stage this is a winnable fight for Jones and a fight that could make some decent money and give both decent recognition. No, it's not PPV worthy but it's still something RJJ looks for these days.
agreed. and i also think a little ego may be involved on his part. im sure there are time where he tells himself "hey look at bhop at 44 and i beat him...if he aint quittin i aint quittin"
True, but I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Lacy as both are way past their peak, both are former olympians, both former world champs (belt holders at least,) so I can see how it could generate some interest as a sort of 'seniors' match up. It's the fights against the likes of Hanshaw and even Sheika that I don't like to see.
RJJ is a fighter. It's what he's done all his life. To tell him he can't perform at something he's done all his life is mentally devastating. Denying the truth is probably all Roy can do nowadays. I think he keeps fighting because deep down inside, he's sure that it's all he can do at this point. Kind of like how Ray Leonard's wife said "Ray was only a fighter. If he wasn't fighting, he wasn't happy." RJJ continues to fight because it's all he knows. As per RJJ/Lacy, I won't even pretend to lie. I'd watch it. I'd grimace at how bad it is and shake my head over how shitty both fighters are at this point but I'd still watch it. RJJ is drama. What can I say?
yep. i just wonder what rjj's endgame his here. what is he still fighting for? is he still fighting cuz that's what he does and doesnt want to quit? or is he angling for a big time fight w/ a big time fighter that he cannot beat (even tho i'm sure he still has delusions he can)
