This guy simply does not buy into HYPE. For anyone. He would rather say "lets wait and see" than say "this guy is the goods" and if he gives an opinion then he is backing it up with some substance. He's not gonna jump the gun on anyone and alot of people hate the fact that he is not a blind bandwagon jumper.
After Arreola's fight tonight when Chris asked Larry if he thinks that Chris is ready for Klitschko, Larry replied with something along the lines of "I thought you were ready a few fights ago". What is this about not buying into the hype? Arreola is a disgrace of a heavyweight and until he defeats someone like Povetkin, Chagaev, or Haye, he should not be considered a viable challenge to Klitschko. Merchant was all over Arreola's nuts.
WRONG..On some fighters in the past he has been the bus driver on the hype train...After the fight between Mosley and Holiday Larry said that Shane was as good as the other Sugars of boxing...And he is riding the hell out of Arreola hype train...Tonight when asked about the fight between Wright and Williams he said..."Im thinking about Arreola" Who by the way only beat a guy that has never won a fight vs an elite fighter.
its one thing to say he likes Arreola because he's exciting, but I'd be surprised if Merchant thinks Arreola would beat the Klits. I didn't hear that comment though but if he said that then its a different story.
He didn't say necessarily would be either of them, but I believe the point is that considering the current state of the Heavyweight division, including the Klitschkho's, Arreola would at least come to fight and make it an entertaining night for the fans.
People hate Merchant because he says the stupidest things at the wrong times. Go watch the kelly pavlik knockout of Jt hes stammering some babble while Pavliks knocking JT out.
You're stupid. It's not normal for a fighter to ask such a direct question as that, so Larry had to roll with it. What do you think he needed to do to meet our definition - tell Arreola "well, I don't think you can beat those guys, sorry" That would be uncouth of someone in his position. It's got nothing to do with whether he "buys into hype" or not. And it's not ALL hype. While any HW champion from ages past swats Cristola like a fly, it's not unreasonable to speculate about his chances against Wvlad, given Wvlad's Glass Jaw. Cristola with his mass and pressure could possibly get to it.
