Valero - not impressed

He's improving all the time. He's not as wild and open as he used to be. Chin is still in the air though.

If your not impressed with Edwin Valero, you soon will be.

This guy is for real. If he can get the big fighters at 135 and 140 to fight him, he will make a believer out of everyone.

Not only is he heavy-handed, but he is a very fast counter-puncher. His skills are much better than advertised.

He is a 135lb version of Corrie Sanders.

 

Again, he is the 135 lb version of Corrie Sanders...if any elite fighter can take him past the 3rd round and turns the fight into a boxing match, they probably win.

But, for the first three rounds, look out!!

If he fights JMM tomorrow, my money is on Valero. Simply for the fact that JMM gets hit too often early in the fight. It takes JMM a couple of rounds to adapt and figure out his opponent. With Valero he won't have that luxury.

Valero is a beast for the first 3 rounds against anyone.

 

That one would be a barnburner for however long it lasted but GBP doesn't want the fight. I don't blame them because losing twice by KTFO would be too much and might ruin a career.

 

It's always nice to see people who've made you money before and are glad to do so in the future. :good The main "excitement" is waiting for when a stray shot taps the chunk taken out of his skull - boxing doesn't need something like that. Especially now. I'd reconsider the bet if I were you and I'd reconsider the license if I were Texas.

 

That would would be a decent gameplan if self preservation in the early rounds is the goal. I agree with link2296 though in that he'll probably ice JMM early because Valero is a blazing starter with wicked power in both hands. JML along Valero have one of the best southpaw right hooks in the sport today. Only someone with great power and a strong chin will pose problems for Valero.

He's different from a lot of bangers because he throws a lot of punches with commitment behind every one of them unlike many powerpunchers that look for that one perfect shot. He doesn't get discouraged or fold ala Cintron just because you can take his shots another trait of some fighters with a big punch.

I think the most important thing is that Valero brings interest and excitement to the sport win or lose.

 

Guys, that ruling was simply a precaution. if you guys remember, Evander Holyfield still has his license revoked here in the states, except for the great state of Texas.

I know it seems unlikely right at the moment, but Valero is the real deal and would give anyone at 135 and 140 a tough fight for at least three rounds.

And yes, if anyone elected to run around for three rounds instead of trading with Edwin, I wouldn't blame them.

The guy can KO anyone at 135 and 140, including JMM or Ricky Hatton.

 

I still would not mind seeing Valero against Pac or JMM. It has a potential of an explosive fight.

 

He could get seriously hurt against Pac or Hatton- not sure they would want to fight him because of the worry about his injury

 

He could possibly get hurt against Pac or Hatton...that is true. But, if they did fight, Edwin's hands are fast enough where they would have to take the former gang member from Venezuela seriously.

Wouldn't it be fun though?

 

Yeah, it's a precaution... a precaution against death. Just think about what that'd do to the sport if Valero's head cracks in half.

Do you really think Holyfield should have any US state license? The man's sick as a dog and showing no signs of improving, health-wise.

If Texas politicians were as stand-up as the average Texan, then we might have something. They're pulling the same stunts with boxing commissions as they do continually do with districting and, once again, having interest groups rewrite school textbooks. You're being badly served and set up for a fall by your state commissions.
