I have been watching HBO and Merchant for 20 years, I have been a fan of his, and was happy HBO resigned him a year or two ago. I am fine with Kellerman, not a hater, and actually don't mind HBO switching up teams since neither is great at the moment. Each has positives and negatives at this point, such is life.

I was bothered, however, at Merchant's comments at the end of the night. He ignored the true star of the night, PWill, and to my, Lampley, and i'm sure many others surprise, went into a dialogue about "Cristobal"
It was pretty ignorant, i'm not sure what his intentions were. There was only one great boxer last night. Arreola has zero chance of catching the imagination of Americans, being a real impact player in the HW division, and it really doesn't matter. Williams has potential crossover stardom, which is what American boxing needs now, and Merchant dropped the ball. Big time.

How did he exactly ''drop the ball big time'' last night with Williams?

I haven't seen the broadcast, being in the UK, but having seen Arreola on YT, don't see why anybody would be excited by him. He is fat, not especially fast, and has the charisma of the rear end of a bus.

Moan about Haye all you like - I aren't a fan either really.... but the fights are good to watch and he always gives good headlines for the media!

Williams is hardly Sugar Ray Robinson II, but could fill the Tommy Hearns mould to a degree - obviously there will never be another Hearns, but Williams is as good as the sport has at present.

He ignored him. He ignored a dominant force, a young superstar who is willing to fight anyone at any weight, that has beaten two of the so called most avoided in the sport, and is willing to fight every couple months. He ignored a fighter that can potentially keep boxing somewhat mainstream in America, after DLH's retirement, and instead focused on Cristobal with his remarkable, so called witty commentary. It was a farce.

Merchant isn't a casual fan. It's his job to contribute to the growth. Do casual fans care for Arreola? Should they? Arreola only contributes to the perception that boxing is a joke in America, misguided or not.

would that have been less warranted than Merchant drooling over Cristobal?

How did he ignore him?He did the interview right?
He asked Arreola who would he like to fight and he asked Williams who he would like to fight. He didn't ignore nothing.
If you say he joked with Arreola about the name notice he did the same thing with Williams abut ''how many rounds he could go after the 12'' and about the ''let's make the (Pavlik and Abraham) fights happen''.
The man who he ignored was Jameel McCline.

I don't like Merchant..... but please no Kellerman. We have Adam Smith here for a lot of British fights, who is bad enough, we don't want to listen to that freak when we get US coverage!

Why is Merchant the only one getting taken to task, Lampley and Kellerman was just as awful last night.

The HBO broadcast was a 2 hr long shill for Chris Arreola.
