No, man. I'm talking the end of the show. Merchant makes his big statement at the end of the show. And he went into some **** about Cristobal, still chuckling at himself over the name. The guy can't get over the name. Meanwhile, when he was done, Lampley was left to say "oh what Larry was referring to was Chris Arreola from the undercard" something like that. It was pathetic.

I completely agree with Larry, Williams still has the same flaws he did when he lost to Quintana. Hype jobs like Valero should not be getting all of the publicity while other well skilled fighters miss out on it, I'm not sure I put Williams in that same category. He has alot of qualities, in fact during the fight Larry mentioned alot of those qualities. This is all alot of trouble over nothing as usual, HBO does a great job as does Larry.

If you haven't noticed he most of everytime has rant about the HWs at the end,he probably is nostalgic about the old days.He had to say something about the HW that fought on the card obviously.
Hell after Mayweather vs Mitchell he had like a 5 minute rant about the HWs.Same thing after some Hopkins fight.

Merchant is just the HBO shill. His job is to shill up the night. He clearly likes Arreola...as does HBO. Sad as that may be, it's who they're putting their wagons on.

Like I said...a 2 hr shill for Arreola.

anyway, that's weak. Whether you like Max or not, not the point.
Merchant gets a ton of credit for his witty references that nobody else would think of. Well in reference to the death of his colleague, Artie Curry, all he could come up with is "only the good die young" How very remarkable. :think.

Well not everyone deals with death the same ya know. When someone who died on ABC, All the great Cossell could muster up was "We'd all mourn if we knew who he was."

Could HBO hump their chosen fighters any more? It's pathetic. The pre-fight build up to Williams v Wright was ALL Williams. Hello, there are two fighters fighting! Where was the heart-warming video about Winky's life of hard knocks and surprising opportunities? HBO is simply the most transparent and cheesiest promoter out there.

True but you can get away with it when you're the big fish in boxing. Unfortunately.

HBO gave Winky a guarantee for another fight a couple years ago, a legal contract. And they couldn't get together, for the most part Winky wanted another opponent like Ike Quartey, a guy past it with no recognition. HBO tried to get out of the contract since Winky wasn't being reasonable and so much time passed. But Winky's lawyers made sure the deal was held up. Williams needed a fight, they forced it on Wright, he had to accept, he had no other options. So, no surprise, Winky didn't get a lot of love last night and you'll never see him on HBO again.

You're not alone. Williams has been a big time HBO pushed fighter but he just hasn't connected with people for some reason. I think he's VERY TV friendly, very fun to watch and extremely talented.

Everytime he cries about being ducked, he makes it that much harder for himself to become a name.
