I watch UFC and Cage rage all the time, I do BJJ so I can see and appreciate the ground game alot more. Even if it is alot of ground and pound these days. The strikes are pretty awful, alot of the guys don't know how to punch properly and it's seriously weak in this area. All round great athletes though.
You need to watch fights with Marcus Davis, Chris Lytle, Andre Arlovski. If I remember correctly Deigo Sanchez has a pro boxing record. Anderson Silva had a pro boxing record. Also, most guys in the sport have a pro kick boxing record, so to suggest they are lacking in the striking department is a little ridiculous. I love boxing but the uneducated **** that comes out the fans mouths sometimes is annoying. There is no denying that boxing is a great sport, but the way its packaged used to be awful. The promotions don't promote there fighters. If I mentioned Ricky Hatton, or Manny Paquaio, or Floyd Mayweather, or Paul Williams or arthur Abrahm, or Chad Dawson to anyone they would give me a blank stare. Things are getting a bit better, I started to notice a bit of a change in the Kelly Pavlik vs Jermaine Taylor 1 fight.
Cung Le uses Kung Fu and he is very effective with it. Its just like saying Karate is a usless martial art, but Machida seems to find use for it.
I am into both sports. Been following Boxing since I can remember and got into MMA after watching UCF 2 on PPV.
what is with all the boxing fans coming over here and starting threads like this anyway? Everytime I log in there is always a new MMA vs Boxing thread. I enjoyed this forum because it isn't a bunch of sherdoggers aka casual MMA fan spouting off about stuff they don't know. I did only name 5 fighters, but what do you want from me a full 100 fighter detailed list of who knows how to punch? like seriously. Sure not everyones strength in MMA is standup but there are fights out there that should be enjoyed by even a boxings fan.
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133748 even Frank thinks it ****ing sucks and he knows 10 x more than both of us put together. I do like MMA btw.. I'm not having a go at the sport but of course I'm a big boxing fan aswell so i'm bound to comment on the technique of the punches.
Yeah I seen that earlier right after I made my post I love boxing but its hard to keep track of, I was disappointed that I missed Winky Wright and Paul Williams the other night. A lot of people say boxing is boring but some of the fights are just unreal, people don't understand it because its not promoted well (at least not in the east coast of Canada). I am unsure if MMA could be promoted with Boxing because of RJJ's promotion. People were booing some good boxing matches, and as soon as an MMA fight went to the ground there was booing. What did the fans want?
A good fight is a good fight. MMA is my passion but boxing is a big part of MMA so how can I not love it 2.
i find both sports entertaining. You should go watch ufc 97 cuz it one of the best fighter in the planet fighting at the main event in anderson silva. He is a good striker and a lot of his fights ends in knockouts. Plus chuck liddell is fighting shogun rua. Both loves to strikes more than wrestle on the ground so those 2 fights will most likely be a stand up fight. :good
I am the total opposite. I watch MMA to see the ground game. And I find the striking almost unbearable to watch in MMA. Im finding less and less good ground fights nowadays than ever before. Thats why i'm absolutely stoked about guys like Maia, excellent BJJ but hes got some wrestling as well which enables him to be so effective.
