The American Media is always hyping a Heavyweight. It is mostly HBO that I am getting tired of. They keep putting on average Heavyweights on their cards and act like they are next All Time Great. Remember the hype of DaVarryl " Touch of Sleep" Williamson, Dominick Guinn, and then Sam Peter, recently. The American media acted like each one of those was going to take over the division and dominate. And now they are hyping Chris Arreola. Even before that HBO had Michael Grant and them thinking he could beat Lennox Leiws, etc,etc, etc. I have never seen the media so delusional as now though. Chris Arreola, the fat slow guy, with crude, one dimensional boxing skills and a nonexistant defense. WTF
The media thought Davarryl Williamson was the next big thing in the HW division. Joe Mesi knocked him out in 90 seconds.
They need to hype something to make people actually watch the sport.. but I agree to a certain extent.. there conning the public saying there anything other than fringe contenders.
All HBO was saying in a nutshell is we want HW's to K.O. eachother. And do it in HW tradition in 4 or 5 rd's cause we don't want to watch big ass dudes dancing. (Considering the level of Comp around these day's @ HW)
I just think HBO are being patriotic towards Arreola because he's a US heavyweight. Nothing wrong with that. They're just getting behind their man.
HBO was acting like Dominick Guinn was the next Evander Holyfeild/ Mike Tyson combined when he KO'd Michael Grant.

Yeah same thing; only it's the UK media getting behind their man. Setanta and Steve Bunce do it with David Haye. I'm pleased they have their own heavyweights to get behind. It's nice HBO have Arreola to support, and I hope he keeps winning. If he doesn't it means Holyfield is the #1 US heavyweight. Nobody wants to see that!
The James Toney that Sam Peter fought would completely humiliate Chris Arreola. He is too slow, crude and always open to be countered. Eddie Chambers would outpoint Areola and expose his many flaws. The Klitschkos would completely destroy him. The guy is going to be exposed. Does HBO ever learn? I guess it don't matter at all though, it all about getting people to watch their fights. And Arreola is an HBO fighter so he is going to get big time hype even when he fights like total **** (against Walker) , or fights a zombie collecting one last paycheck for retirement.
You're being a bit harsh geppy. He's a US heavyweight being hyped by a US boxing show. I think that's understandable. Also, he's one of very few US heavyweight prospects out there. Who do you want them to get behind; Evander Holyfield?! OK so he's no Mike Tyson. But everyone know that. I think HBO are doing the best they can considering the tools they've been given.
They can try being some what objective. Forget what HBO tells you. What do you see? An overweight, slow, crude, one dimensional, brawler, who gets hit way too much. But when HBO talks about him, it sounds more like they are describing Sonny Liston. When James Toney fought Rahman, HBO was talking about how much a disgrace it is for Toney being in his shape. At least Toney doesn't have D size ***** tits. Toney is a Showtime fighter, that is the difference.
