to be honest i'll breath a sigh of relief.

was a big fan of oscar when he was young, throwing combos and was hungry to be somebody in the ring.

but for a few years now he's not sincere and just another mouthpiece selling his company.

that might sound harsh to some people, but for a fighter who has been so influential in the sport of boxing i guess i felt he let the sport down a bit when he took the hopkins fight because neither tito nor shane would take 'lesser paydays' against a guy they had beaten - but they were much more attractive fights than hopkins ever was - and the sturm fight served a warning about that.

since then oscar's been focused on major paydays and it has potentially got in the way of more interesting fights.

early oscar was excellent to watch, with maybe the vargas fight being the crown jewel (for me at least). that was a superb fight.

but i find oscar the mouthpiece annoying.

Nope, I'll be happy.

He's been getting in the way of the fights that should be made for a long time. I'll be glad when his money is put into his promotional outfit for the benefit of the game, and not for the benefit of his ego.

i don't think he'll announce a fight but i won't be surprised if he announces an up to 2 year extension on his career rather than retirement.

 

For those who have followed the lower weights from the mid nineties, this will be somewhat of the closing of that era.

He kept the sport alive, but I'm glad his hanging them up. You can't be a part time boxer and expect to be the best.

respect the man for his contributions to the sport. i'll drink to him but i won't go as far as shedding a tear cause the fool is retiring with more money than i can ever dream of having.:freddy

 

He brought us superfights time and again, and lost them...all...time and again.

 

No tears, but I respect the man.

He pulled a huge oar when it came to keeping boxing on the map.

But as a fighter, name recognition alone is what "earned" his ticket to all of the "mega events" of the last half decade. It was probably time for him to retire in 2003.

I'll be relieved. I am tired of superfights involving Oscar. Opponents all call him out after every fight and try to hype him up as a great opponent although there is very little left of what was there 10 years ago.
