The more I rewatch Arreola the more I'm convinced HBO is setting Chris up to make the EPO Klitschko sisters look fantastic. HBO wants to make as much money off Arreola's name and his large following as long as possible until he gets knocked out later this year.

For the life of me I can't understand why some believe Arreola is going to be a premier American heavyweight. Some point at his amateur career. Don't need to discuss how many fighters with good amateur records turned out to be bust in the pros.

Arreola is very hittable, poor defense IMO. His footing is unstable. His posture is awkward. He's chin is shaky; Arreola often lunges with his chin exposed (this is a recipe for a KO). Ring generalship? Negative. The only substance I see in Arreola's game is he OCCASIONALLY applies pressure, although he's not very polished once he does.

Arreola is not the "counter puncher" Larry Merchant claims he is. I thought that was a ridiculous statement by Larry. Povetkin and Haye are counter punchers. Arreola is not. HBO is attempting to shape, mold and manufacture Arreola into something he is not. I'm not sold.

This is not a "hate" on Arreola analysis. Just an honest critique of a fighter with very limited potential. I would like nothing more than to see Arreola beat the EPO Klitschkos sisters. But I'm a realist. I've been following boxing since I was 6 years old. And I know when I see a journeyman/tough man being hyped for the moment at the right time only to be brought back down to reality.

Arreola supporters are in for a rude awakening. Please don't say you weren't warned.

Something I noticed about the fight after re watching it, While most of you are too busy looking at the fat that is there to see, pay attention to how he took McCline out, that sequence there was perfectly set up.

Left Uppercut to raise up McClines head, Right hand that tagged him and staggered him, a short jab to messure McCline followed by another right hand to put him on his ass.

Arreola is a thinking man in there, the way he finished that fight shows you that he has had a bit of amatuer experience and that he is a finisher when he gets his man hurt, and he did all of this by setting it up the right way.

Perhaps he does beat Both Klitschkos time will tell.

No, you are not crazy. Arreola is being hyped for his ethnicity and nationality. If there were any really outstanding prospects in the USA, he would be dropped by the promoters instantly. The fact that a fat turd with a porous defense can be hyped to the degree that Arreola has is an indictment of the state of US heavyweight boxing. Arreola has a bit of power, nothing truly exceptional though, and not much else. Samuel Peter redux. His time in the limelight will be mercifully short. Thank God for that, because if a fatbody like Arreola is held up as an example of a "prime" American athlete, we in the USA should hang our heads in shame. Arreola simply doesn't belong when mentioning US greats of the past. Those men were by and large great athletes as well as tough fighters. Arreola looks like he'd die if he tried to follow a rigid training regimen that involved a lot of running.

Arreola did have a good amateur pedigree but lets be very frank here he left that back at 170lbs. Now nearly 90lbs later he is an obese 255lbs and has as much technique as stampeding Water Buffalo. Arreola is truly awful to watch. Beating up McCline who was already retired doesn't tell us too much. And whats worse he looked awful doing it. There isnt anything in Arreola's arsenal that makes me think he has the ability to really achieve at the top level. He's boxing skills are non-existent. Right now Samuel Peter vs Arreola would be interesting. As Peter has been finally found out and put to bed and like Arreola is also at a cross roads. Two big overweight behemoths with the technique of a drunk blind man. Sounds exciting to me.

Good post, Scurla. The hype machine around Areola is in overdrive, but his flaws are so damn obvious... Peter v. Arreola might be fun. I think it ends in a KO. Whichever fighter faints from exertion first will lose.

I don't think that much of Arreola, he is not in shape and he lacks any real boxing skill. He actually can't box at all. He has some raw power and pressure. But I really doubt its enough against the skilled European fighters.

Anyway, I can see some logic in the people that think he beats Haye. Haye has struggled with pressure fighters like Mormeck and Fragomeni. The thing I would be wary about is Arreola is taller than these guys, Haye likes tall guys as opposed to squat fighters. Mormeck and Fragomeni also kept a very tight high guard, whereas Arreola seems real easy to hit, which is dangerous against Haye.

I think he shows alot of potential. If he had a six pack would you like him then?I think he comes in a little heavy too, but you know what it hasn't seemed to slow him down much if any. His body has to be comfortable and in a way the fat makes him more flexible to throw some of those odd angled punches.
He has power likes to fight and throws combinations! Whats not to like?

LOL I don't think its a good thing.I just haven't seen him affected badly by the weight like Toney or Briggs. I think he has good technique and ability.
He sets up his punches very well.

He would have no chance against the Klitschko brothers. No chance. David Haye would blast him out of there as well. He's too slow and his conditioning is terrible for a young athlete.

I will admit he doesnt seem to look like he is in shape, However that could be due to other things genetics for example? Anyhow someone said that Peter vs Arreola would be a great fight, No it wouldnt it would be much like the fight we just saw.

I know you dont like him its all good, but he has not lost and has the same Kayo Ratio as Vitali, with out a single loss on his resume, and this knock out over McCline even though McCline was semi retired, its still an impressive win for Arreola I have never seen McCline done in like that ever.
and lets not forget Peter went life and death with McCline.
