people also thought Mosley would not only get KTFO'd by had no chance in hell of stopping him, Margo's hell on wheels but, Cotto hits hard as well, but he picks his shots much better then Margo who wastes alot, a stoppage wouldn't suprise me 1 bit

but i still dont think he will, Africans dont budge much, they got concrete built in there DNA

As a Cotto fan, I shall admit that it's possible, because Clottey is a very good fighter with some sharp punches and a good tight defense in the pocket. He can bust up Cotto on the inside if Cotto fights in the exact same manner that he did against Margarito, and if that happens, I could see Clottey taking advantage of the situation.

But, while Cotto is never going to be an amazing defensive fighter stricktly by virtue of his style, I think he'll improve slightly and certainly work more combinations to the body and head against a fighter who does have a tendency to be sparing with his punches from time to time. This could well be enough to carry the close rounds in a fight that I see going to the cards.

I see Cotto winning this fight by UD...certainly not going away...but enough to have earned the nod. However, it's a tough fight for him to take, and he and Clottey both deserve respect for stepping into the ring with one another.

Cotto isnt a fighter who likes to fight going backwards... we only saw that in the margarito fight and it didnt work to his favor.... but that was against relentless pressure.... clottey wont come forward that aggresively... and if he is smart he will bait cotto to come inside with him..
after all that happens... well have to see cotto can stand up against clotteys barrage... its not even cotto "pressing" him.... cotto tends to stay midrange or midrange and slowly coming forward... that is the worse thing cotto can do in this fight... if he doesnt stay midrange all fight or outside all fight hell be in danger

yeah but margarito punches are slow and visable.. those arent the punches that hurt you... the punches that hurt you are the punches you dont see... clottey has the ability to throw fast slick dangerous punches

    > zab did it to cotto
    > torres did it to cotto
    > chop chop did it to cotto
    > shane did it to cotto

its the speed that hurts cotto..... not the strength
SOME pressure is perfect... just casually coming forward.... stalking over agressively and punching over agressively wont benefit clottey and it wont work towards cotto's weaknesses... it will take away from clotteys advantages

Cotto doesnt fight like that tho... its not like he is some amazing combination puncher... thats not his style... not only that but if he does indeed try to fight like that... he will leave himself WAY to open and he will put him self in serious danger

Cotto also has shown the ability to fight dumb. Not clinching against Margo to break up his rhythm or to buy time was a dumb move and not smart. Effective clinching is part of boxing it helped Shane beat Margo.:deal Retreating to the ropes instead of keeping the fight in the middle of the ring is another example in the Margo fight. Abandoning his body attack very early on like he did in the Margo fight. Cotto can be frustrated when things don't go his way. Hopefully he has made some adjustments because if he hasn't Clottey is the type of guy who will beat him.

Clottey's not that fast, at all.... also

    > Zab couldn't drop Cotto and got stopped (faster hits hard)
    > Torres couldn't drop Cotto and got stopped (just as fast hits harder)
    > Chop couldn't drop Cotto and got stopped (just as fast, better counterpuncher)
    > Shane couldn't drop Cotto and got outboxed (faster, hits harder)

they couldn't so much as drop him, but Clottey's gonna stop him?

He fought Margo like no other, i mean i have never seen Cotto fight like that, he was bouncing on his feet wasting energy and going back straight, he also had his hands down and was taunting, i think if he fought Margo the same way he did Mosley he probably would have beaten him.

Cotto has been hurt every fight once he became champ at 140, the question is how cant Clottey stop him?

actually torres DEFINITELY had cotto down.... i think chop chop as well but im not 100% sure though...

zab doesnt throw enough punches in punches to hurt cotto
torres, chop & shane aren't defensive fighters.....clottey is a defensive fighter with great counter punching ability ... cotto hasnt fought someone like him

Yeah, he was hanging on for dear life against the deadliest puncher at 140 at the time. Paulie Malinaggi. And Gomez nearly knocked him unconscious.
