Top 5 fighter of all time? I think RJJ in his prime was the best fighter I have seen In my life time! Im 24??? what you think?
During his prime he was very hard to beat, close to unbeatable. His only loss was against montell griffin and it was a DQ loss. He was one of the best i've seen during my lifetime:good
Top 5 of the last 25 years. Huge talent had big wins early on against Toney And young Hop. But during his reign at light heavy there was too much a lack of comp.Whether that be him not seeking them or just none around. When he finally found someone worthy he was spanked although a bit past it and coming down in weight. However the KO losses to Tarver and Johnson take some of that luster off the invincibility HBO marketed.
Anyway Roy Jones is the only fighter in my lifetime to have had a shot at being the best of all time. He could have done this by doing the following. His existing resume pre-Ruiz + the following Beating Nunn at MW at unifying the 160 titles Moving to SMW and beating Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Steve Collins, Joe Calzaghe, Marcus Beyer, Sven Ottke Moving to LHW and beating DM Rematching and beating Bernard Hopkins at 168/175 Fighting and beating Antonio Tarver before fighting and beating Ruiz for the HW title. Retire.
he should have taken a leaf out of Calzaghes book and retired after the RUiz/Tarver figth. He had nothing to prove, but Roy is an egomaniac he beleived all that Black Superman mumbo jumbo. Sad because ROy is one of the classiest guys out there, never saw him disrespect an opponent out of the ring. The best fighter ever was Ray Robinson, but the best I have seen is Roy.
He would have fought Benn, but Benn lost his match to Malinga...who Roy destroyed in 6. MArcus Beyer (please no), I think fighting Tarver the way he did was a huge disadvantage...people underestimate thhe accomplishment considering no one has ever moved back down to light heavy. You can blame Joe Calzaghe for that fight not happening earlier, no one would have given Roy Credit for beating Joe at the time....comon guys LAcy was expected to beat Joe...that how **** Joe was rated priot to LAcy
That DQ meant nothing. Was quite harsh as well as Montell was down on one knee when hit and spent most of that fight trying to survive and spoil. Jones completely annihilated him in the rematch felling him with a huge left hook.
Whatever! he did not pass the test of time and was ****ing put to sleep in two fights!Coma like sleep by guys who are not ATG's he was an overrated fighter who looked great against a mediocre talent pool. He did not posess great boxing skill he just had physical attributes and a glass Jaw...thrilled many a young cat for whom he is everything as he is all they saw, sort of like Tyson is the deadliest Heavy many have seen as they too have absolutely no point of reference.
