In my humble opinion he was an amazing light heavyweight who i rate below only Archie Moore... As a heavyweight he was just hard to beat, for what he lacked in savvy he made up for in desire to win and was as awkward as hell.... If he could not do much with you he'd make it as hard as possible for you to be succesful against him... His win over Cooney provides my answer to anyone who ever doubts his ability to bang.. he hit and hit Cooney hard and often from all angles before Big Gerry was overcome by the whole ordeal... Mike Tyson was indeed wary of him before the fight took place.. Mike was no push over and was the perfect example of never judging a book by its cover..
Not too good pal, been too busy with funerals and such (see my thread in the lounge entitled Kevin Tork RIP). But with any luck, I will get back to it soon. How have you been?
Still working out of the old garage and barn. Im still just a college student, so I can't afford a real gym now. I do train tough ass fighters though.
Gotta get my amatuer training license soon, but it's been a pain in the ass so far. I have two fighters in my stable. One is a big Mexican heavy that hits like a mule, but he needs to work on his cardio more to get down to cruiser. The other is a 6th grade boy who has amazing footwork but a weak chin. I don't think he will compete. He was doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for a couple years, but recently got into trouble with it at school, so he is out of the gym for a while.
That you do. But the Mexican, I question his dedication, or lack of. He seems to focus solely on partying. I have tried to get him to focus, but he doesn't listen well. His idea of training is hitting the heavybag for a few rounds and calling it a day. He just got a young girl pregnant, and I try to get him to do it for her and the child, but so far nothing.
oh well you will find a good fighter one day especially if you can get this mexican into a good fighter
yep. Spinks had some great wins and Hearns is another one whose two losses really hurt his overall standing. Both guys had some great wins. Too bad Spinks did not continue fighting.
