I know very little about the promotional side of boxing but if your mick hennessy isn't it just a case of saying to the t.v companies "i have froch fighting taylor if you're interested in showing it then make an offer, the highest bidder will get to show the fight"....... or is there more to it than that, cuz i dont understand what mick hennessy is losing out on by only accepting a small amount of money cuz surely something is better than nothing, and plus his fighter will get exposure to the public. can someone educate me please.
He could be offering it to the highest bidder, or be going to them with a figure he wants met, and nobody is prepared to meet it. This is more likely seeing as no channel has it, as his previous fights all found channels. Hennessy may be asking for alot of money and channels will not meet it because a) Froch is only slightly above the rest of Britains obscure fighters in terms of recognition. b) It's at 3 in the morning, and not many people will watch at that time, only boxings ultra hardcore fans. Even I won't stay up to that time just to watch a boxing match. c) There's a credit crunch on and it's hit revenues, such as advertisers and subscribers, so channels cannot afford what they could 2 years ago
If you sell it this time for 10 you won't get 20 next time You have to protect your long term interests, long term value of the product There will be a 'going rate' and my guess is the TV people want to pay less than it
Thats true, but if he'd have sold to ITV to show it live and repeated on the Sunday, at least next time he'd have a product to sell that more people will had heard of and maybe was worth a bit more money. This way the next Froch fight in the USA is another tough sell to the networks.
Yep I hear you Froch should have a bigger profile by now and it's no co-incidence that he is now entering 'Witter zone' when he really shouldn't be, he's a far more entertaining fighter and has a far more marketable attitude I'm still hopeful something will be sorted for this fight, based on nothing in particular Having said that I'll 'acquire' it next morning pronto anyway
I think Hennessy is seriously damaging the Carl Froch product. It's not a case of selling the fight lower than what it's worth, it's a case of getting the maximum exposure for the long term benefits - speculate to accumulate, etc. If the channels aren't willing to pay now, they definitely won't pay in the future either if Froch doesn't get screened this time around. The longer he goes without being on tv, the further he slips into mainstream oblivion and more and more of the public will be forgetting about him. If Hennessy is too stubborn to sell the fight on the back of Froch getting millions of viewers in his last fight, how's he going to manage selling it next time when his most recent fight had no viewers? Nobody will know or care who Carl Froch is and the tv stations certainly aren't going to pay huge asking prices for a little known, almost obscure fighter to the public eye. Mick Hennessy is being very, very stupid and detrimental to his fighter's long term market value. I hope Carl takes all this on board and as soon as any obligations are fulfilled, he leaves Hennessy for a promoter who knows what they're doing and will serve Carl's career with the respect it deserves.
What I don't understand is what the hell Froch and Hennessy think they are worth. I'm sure certain companies have put up the "going rate" for a British world champ, albeit one that isn't as popular as he thinks. I really think Hennessy has been caught up in his hyperbole bull**** such as "Froch can be p4p#1" and he's truely starting to believe it, and its affecting his judgement. Froch was on prime time ITV and didn't even do very well from what I heard. TV is only going to pay what you are worth and that = what you bring to them in terms of viewing figures so they can sell advertising space.
I think they all made offers that Hennessey wasn't happy with. Even if ITV offer £100,000 Hennessey should take it because there is alot of money in the marketing. Froch v Pascal got 3mil watching it. That shows you boxing is popular when presented to the mainstream audience. As long as it's a worthy fight at a decent hour. Enough advertising for such a bout would have people staying up. Hennessey has showed that he is a good promoter but still greatly lacking.
