Competing in amateur boxing

I know.

I'll do so once I find a decent one.

So how long after joining a gym can I expect to get matches, or is it whenever he thinks I'm ready? Only asking cos I'm nearly 17 already so if I wanna be serious I need to get a move on.

Also, I know these are ridiculously stupid questions but honestly I don't have a clue about amateur boxing beyond watching the Olympics. How does the scoring work at this lower sort of level? Is it just a judge(s) who score the fight round by round like in the professionals?

Also what happens regarding equipment, or rather ring apparell, you know the head guard, vest, shorts etc. Are you expected to buy your own? And do you need 2 lots for red & blue?

In my gym we have a lot of non competing people, so you're supposed to tell the trainer you want to compete at first. Then he'll basically treat you different and put you in the ring often, take you on the pads, stuff like that. When he thinks you're ready, he'll sign you up for tournaments and such. Training gear should be acquired by yourself, but fighting gear (gloves, trunks, shirt, protective cup and head gear) is provided by my gym as we really fight in our gyms name and all wear the same outfits.

Fights are scored punch by punch, a clean landed one gets you a point.

Ps. at 17 years old you are nowhere near in a hurry IMO.

 

in ireland your first few fights (first&second maybe third) are exhibitions where no one wins
in Ireland u get a medical 2 passport photos u need ur original birth cert

 

i only been born once so i only have my original birth certificate how mnay times you been born

How many amateur figts do you need to have (in england) before you can turn pro?
help me win this argument guys, i'm saying 3,cos i'm sure that what it used to be...

 

you dont need any as long as you do a round sparring with a pro and the person grading you thinks your capable enough

I live in Peterborough England and the only boxing gym in the city only takes in boxers who are already amateurs. I work out in the gym 3 times a week but have no boxing experience.

I want to get involved in boxing and get trained up so that I can become an amateur fighter, but ideally at first I want to get trained up well enough before I even consider fighting in proper matches.

What can I do?

 

I Would ask them if they accept novice amateurs, or if you have to have a few bouts before you can join the gym. I dunno what they mean by who are already amateurs; but as long as you haven't fought professionally, you can compete as an amateur.

 

As for as coaching, what do you have to do to be able to coach and get in the ring?

 

Register as a coach, take and pass the level 1 coaches clinic. You'll get a blue book and a pink registration slip with your registration number on it.
