Clottey absolutely friggin' murdered Corrales on the inside, it was unbelievable. And Chavez on the inside against Rosario defused literally every bomb he threw, kept him at perfect punching range for short chopping shots by using his elbows... Masterclass
Watch Mccallum vs Harding. And Mccallum vs Mccroy. Jeff Fenech was a monster on the inside. James Toney as well. Before his weight got to him Castillo was very good on the inside. Julio Cesear Chavez broke people down on the inside. Donald Curry and Marlon Starling fought very wll on the inside. Michael Nunn for all his physical gifts fought very well on the inside when he wanted to(esp the Roldan bout) Watch Digeo Corralles if your tall and you want to see a short compact hook on the inside(Manfredy bout) Jose Luis Lopez was good on the inside. Meldrick Taylor as well.
Dick Tiger is the first name that always comes to my mind when great infighters are discussed, but Tiger's infighting style was self-taught and somewhat unconventional, I don't know if I would recommend that to someone to imitate. Aside from that, see Archie Moore against Maxim, Armstrong against Ross or Ambers(rematch), or anything with Joe Frazier between '67 and 71 (basically, from the Chuvalo fight to Ali). Also, check out Kid Gavilan against Gil Turner.
Yeah i meant his whole inside game really. He can do many things, but that defense simultaneous to his offence on the inside is absolutely amazing
his inside fighting is his best asset and IMO he is the best in fighter because of the things you say
i think the best infighting boxing match i have ever seen was micky ward fighting emanuel augustus in manchester (i think). ward forced the inside fight the whole time and augustus as always seemed more then willing to fight his opponents fight. at a absolute champioship level match, i think chavez-rosario deserves a mention. rosario was constantly on the ropes but throwing his shots and chavez just took them and threw his for as long as it lasted in close quarters on the ropes.
James Toney. Watch Toney/Charles Williams. 12 rounds of non-stop infighting. Toney is as masterful as anybody ever on the inside.
