Joe is an amazing fighter. This derogatory **** said against him has to stop. The mother ****er beat Bernard Hopkins lest anyone forgot, the same Hopkins that literaly crushed Pavlik who destroyed the naturally athletic Taylor, was beaten by a man who looks like someone's dad.

Hopkins obviously didn`t need Frank Warren as his promoter during his title reign. He managed to pick his own bums to fight.

Where were all you guys saying this about Lacy BEFORE the fight. 90% of this board were saying Joe Calzaghe was going to get KTFO. I think a lot of people on here who claim they knew Lacy wasn`t all that all along are telling porkie pies.

i give calzaghe credit for the performance but you can only judge the manner of the victory on the opponent and by what the opponent has achieved. Lacy was the IBF champion fair enough but who were the best names on his ledger? Syd vanderpool, robin reid, omar sheika??? even against these guys lacy was being outboxed comprehensively at times.
I give joe credit for the manner of the victory and overcoming the odds but you can only judge it by lacy and lacy hadnt and still hasnt beaten any world class boxers.

If you honestly think that, then you have lost any credibility you thought you had.

Well,Lacy had been schooled and stopped in last amateur fight by Gaidar Gaidarbekov-long before Calzaghe gave him a lesson in boxing.

Its all about the hype. Lacy never was as good as his nick name indicated "next Tyson" but he was good enough to become belt holder ... so he is at contender level but never will be the elite fighter.

I think this pretty much sums it up for American fans:

Gabriel Montoya: This is a battle between my head and heart. My heart says Lacy is too strong, too iron-chinned, too youthful and just plain too much for Calzaghe. But my head says Calzaghe will be on the closest thing to his home turf, in the best shape of his life, is too much technically, has pop of his own, a good set of whiskers and way more experience in Championships fights. If Joe pulls a win, his entire Alphabet reign is validated. Something he should have tried to do years ago. If Lacy wins, he is officially The Man and The Man to Beat at 168. My heart is winning out. Joe will have his moments but Lacy's size, youth and power edges will win out. Lacy by 10th Round KO.

I think that was the consensus on this site for the overwhelming majority, not just Americans.

I was here during the build up and the Calzaghe base was very, very quiet. I can only recall a couple of posters picking Calzaghe. But there sure are a lot of supposed experts around here now.
