No matter who wins, will Pac-Hatton be one of the top 3 wins of the decade?

    I think it will be.

If Pacquiao wins, he has beaten a guy who is 44-0 at lww, who is the undisputed number 1 lww in the world, who is top 10 p4p, and Pacquiao will have done so in his 1st fight at lww.

If Hatton wins, he has beaten the consensus world p4p#1, he will be the first man since the great Erik Morales to beat Pacquiao (Pac's last defeat being 4 years ago), and he will have won despite being the betting underdog.

Whichever way this fight goes (and I think Pacquiao will, but I view it as a real 50-50, would not be at all surprised if Ricky won), it will be arguably one of the top 3 wins of the decade, top 5 at least.

    Thoughts? :bbb

I hope so, but I have a feeling Hatton won't get his due for winning at all.

Why the hell not?? If Ricky wins, I can't envisage any reason why he wouldn't get all the credit in the world. I know that I, as a Pacquiao fan, will give him all the credit that anyone deserves for beating a prime world p4p#1.

No-one can legitimately degrade/belittle this contest. There can be no excuses. We have two prime top 10 p4p fighters fighting at a weight they are both comfortable at (OK, Pac would probably be better at 135, but he can surely operate effectively at 140 considering he was 148.5lbs against Oscar and looked excellent). No excuses for either man, winner takes all IMO.

The winner will have to be very impressive in victory to be considered. No controversies or ugly, sloppy performances. Even then, top 3? I don't know about that.

Barrera was a top 3 ranked p4p fighter, a better fighter than Hatton was, and Pacquiao simply annihilated him. It'll be tough to match that.

Then you've got other fights in which top 5 ranked p4p fighters were dominated, like Hopkins-Trinidad, Mayweather-Corrales, and Forrest-Mosley 1.

And Mosley-De La Hoya 1 was a brilliant performance in a competitive fight. Mosley being in his 3rd fight @ 147 versus DLH being in his 10th or so.

hmm says.. I think he's already accomplished that. Also, I think this fight would be huge given the fact that Hatton has ruled the JrWW division for quite some time. Big fight but top 3 wins of the decade, I dunno.

What are the top 3 right now?
    It's all subjective and opinion..

    I think my top 3 at the moment would be Pac-Barrera I, Hopkins-Trinidad and Mosley-Oscar I.

I agree. If Hatton wins, I don't see why he should be given much credit mainly due to Pac being a natural 130lbs fighting at 140 LWW for the first time in his career.

Why should any fighter's victory can be regarded as a top 3 of the decade, when they just beatened a smaller man who has never fought in his division.

If pacman wins i would class it as one of the biggest victories of the decade, but if Hatton wins? Nah. I like both fighters and i see Hatton as the favourite, but i want the Pacman to win.

He will get his due if he wins, Pac is the favorite going in to this one so far and if he shocks the world then he will get a lot of credit for it.

I wouldn't say its that cut and dry, a lot would depend on the fashion of the victory and what each fighter did after it.

    Disputable issues:

For a Pac win, the fact that Hatton's resume is questionable and he has never really beaten an A level fighter let alone anyone resembling a prime HoFer. Obviously the biggest part of a Pac win is the weight factor, if someone simply beat Ricky Hatton it probably wouldn't make the top 20 wins of the decade, let alone top 3.

For a Hatton win, the fact that he had previously never beaten any top notch fighters would bring into question Pac's ability above 135. Hatton's dominant loss to Floyd Mayweather (above both their natural weights) brings into question his ability against an A level fighter who is comfortable around 140/147. If Hatton won and Pac went on to beat a quality fighter at 140 like Bradley, he would clearly be comfortable at that weight and the Hatton win would hold a lot of merit, though probably not be top 3.
