It's not really that controversial but

    Hopkins over Robinson at 160

Jack Dempsey - the Non Pareil version - in my opinion, would beat Marvin Hagler.

    There you go. :smile

Wilfred Benitez over Carlos Ortiz at jr. Welterweight. Young, brash Benitez outmanuevering Ortiz to capture a decision win. What a shocker!

Louis over Ali is not a huge reach to me ...

Monzon or Hopkins over Robinson at 160 either ...

I pick Joe Frazier over Marciano

I pick Jack Johnson over Joe Louis

I pick Sam Langford over Dempsey, Marciano or Frazier ...

he grant, I think NONE of those are a reach! I do not strongly disagree with any of them and agree with Frazier over Marciano and Johnson over Louis.

None of these outcomes would surprise me.

If Greb, at 158, had stepped up and defeated the HW champion of the world in Jack Dempsey, it would have been an extraordinary feat. We would probably take for granted that Greb and not Robinson, was the best fighter who ever lived.

Until recently, I believed that Dempsey would have overcome Greb, the sparring sessions notwithstanding. I am convinced now that I was wrong, that Dempsey shared the fate of legions of larger men who couldn't handle the stamina and the speed of Greb, that Dempsey ducked Greb, and that Dempsey and Greb both knew why Dempsey ducked Greb.

I have had days when similar thought floated through my mind.

Unfortunately we can never know for sure.

For me the best fighter of the gloved era is a Langford/Greb issue.

Jack Johnson, over anyone except Ali.That takes some beating.
On a par, rating Dempsey at no 3 all time.

    Tiger over Hagler, anyone?

I take this one. I think Tiger had the right style to beat Hagler.
