My point is simple. You can't base the argument that Jones is better than Hopkins soley on that one H2H fight.

Bernard Hopkins circa 1993 was not the masterful boxer that he came to be from 2001 onwards. He was not peforming at the same level, he did not have the same vast amount of experience, and he did not yet have the unique style and ability that made him a legend.

Unless both fighters are in their prime, H2H's are not as significant as many people think, when comparing talent.

Clinton Mitchell won a H2H against a green B-HOP. That fact alone doesn't make Mitchell the better fighter.

After hopkins lost too Jones he went on an unbeaten streak that lasted 10 yrs Their records at the time of their fight were :

Jones 22-O Hopkins 22-1 the argument about Hopkins being green is bs because both fighters were pretty much on the same level and both went on win streaks that lasted more than.a decade after they met .

The fact that both Jones and Bhop were the no:1 and 2 middleweights ranked by RING at the time should tell you it was the right time to fight each other. unfortunately they came straight after Hagler Leanord era...hence the lack of build up

To be honest, you've mentioned to me before that you think B-HOP was prime in 1993, so I'm not willing to debate this with you, as you only believe he was prime then, because it makes RJJ's victory over him look better than it actually is.

Im not saying he was prime, both Jones and him were not prime then.

But if you saw how good hopkins was in his fights prior to Jones ud realise that Hopkins was a beast...have u seen Hopkins pre Jones fight????

he became a counter pucnher with age....Jones for me was the ebst counter pucnher through the 90's. I dont think Hopkins would have beaten Jones upto 2003.

What makes Hopkisn great is his consistancy to fight at the higher level for such a long time.

I still Jones would have lasted at the top till 2005/6 if he didnt do the crazy thing of coming back down to light heavy @ the age of 35.

There is a reason why no one in history (apart from Jones) has gone upto heavy and back down to light heavy and won the title.

Peopel overlook how good a win vs Tarver @ 35 with the circumstances is.

Fair enough. B-HOP circa 1993 was a good win for Jones, and a great name to have on the resume. However, a H2H that took place in 2004 say, would certainly have yielded a different outcome, IMO.

Also, I personally believe that RJJ is 0-3 against Tarver. Tarver was robbed in the first fight, Jones looked awful and was very lucky the get the decision.

Its with a heavy heart, that I voted for Hopkins. He gave prime RJ probably one of his toughest fights, beaten prime Trinidad, prime Tarver and prime Pavlik.

Stop using Adelaide Byrd's 114-113 score in favor of Hopkins as an excuse to say B-Hop won.

Calzaghe won the fight cleary. The aggressor's punches are supposed to be worth more than the defender's punches.

Byrd gave B-Hop a going away present, since he said he was about to retire. The other two judges were honest.

Bernard Hopkins beat Roy Jones 115-113 on my scorecard. How the judges scored that fight for Roy (who was running away all night) is beyond my comprehension.

Excellent point, but you could go even further by watching the Jones-Hopkins fight again and scoring it without paying attention to Roy's flashy eye-catching antics. Score it properly and you'll have either a BHop win or a draw.
