http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ot...Froch-threatens-quit-Britain-TV-blackout.html could he be a big star in north America (canada, US) if he handles Taylor in style, sets up base and has his future bouts there
‘I don’t want to sound bitter and twisted,’ he said from his training camp in Canada. ‘But there are TV companies out there who have plenty of funds but they are not showing any loyalty to boxing. ‘I’ve got fantastic backing from Showtime and I can’t wait to show my skills to American viewers. British TV stations have shown some farcical fights in the past and now they are too scared to push the button on this one. ‘Once I’ve done a job on Jermain Taylor, British television might miss out because I might just stay out here. Canada and America are fantastic places and, if the big fights can be made over here and if I’ve got the backing of Showtime, then I’m happy to stay out here and see out my career in America.’ With the fight not due to start before 3am British time, Froch’s anger is not directed towards terrestrial networks such as ITV, who screened his spectacular winning of the title against Jean Pascal, or the BBC, but against dedicated sports channels such as Sky and Setanta. Hennessy said: ‘Setanta have made no offer. I asked them on numerous occasions and they’ve talked a good fight but, when it came down to it, there has never been an offer. Sky said they didn’t consider a ppv fight or a saturday fight night.
Perhaps if he had the balls to do his own TV deal instead of employing a useless promoter to take half the money he would be shown. Lots of British fighters have sold their own TV rights without giving a percentage to a promoter - Hatton, Haye, Calzaghe and Lewis have all done it (Hatton and Lewis especially) so if Froch really believes he is this megastar..... why not try? Even if it fails, he will still have been shown. As it is, nobody here is going to be watching!
The story may have some substance but... The Daily Mail: "Rotten Britain", "time to leave", etc... etc  does that Tory rag ever stop...
Steve Bunce of Setanta categorically stated, both on his TV show and on ESB that discussions were held but the two parties were too far apart, and therefore the talks broke down. Bearing in mind we are in the grip of a recession, I would guess the pot of money is slightly smaller than it was for Hatton vs Castillo or Calzaghe vs Jones. Furthermore..... Mick Hennessy has a track record for talking out of his ass.
IMO, it would be sweat for L. Bute to fight the Winner of this fight, which ever fighter turns out to win (Taylor ).
That SUCKS. We get it on regular Showtime over here, but one of your own stars and a WBC Belt holder to boot not getting back home coverage sucks. Sorry for you guys, and hope there's a good stream for ya'll to get onto. Since it's not a PPV, and on Regular service, stream makers usually aren't as reluctant to make one. I take Taylor, but expect this to be one hell of a fight.:yep
Just sucks. That's all I'm sayin'. I feel bad for you guys on that one, not fair to the UK boxing fans at all.:!:
Yeah, Bute fights at the Bell center are becoming quite an event, the atmosphere is electric, the Canadians have really taken to Bute and vice versa. Froch would relesh fighting up there.:smoke
that's great for Bute too! Those fans up there seem like a hell of a good bunch of boxing fans, atleast thru my TV screen. Hope he keeps it up, and it looks like Andrade is getting some fan fare up that way too. Rock on with it!:good
Yeah, I blame Hennessy for this fiasco. Does anyone think this will affect the fight? Froch may get distracted and lose his focus.
