Well legacy is pretty much determined by popular opinion not just that of a few people. For him to get a more favorable general opinion I think that it's going to be really hard. There are no other top elites at 140 for him to fight and he has shown that he can't succeed at 147. Any wins over guys moving up from 135 or lower will be dismissed based on size.

That means his only option will be to be completly dominate at 140 for a long period of time. Guys like Lopez, Holmes, Hopkins (before moving up in weight). Didn't really havehuge wins but are still regarded very highly because of the length of their reign and consistency. I don't think that Hatton's career can last long enough to accomplish that.

I don't think that Hatton years from now will be remembered as the best fighter around at the time. Still he will be remembered as the kind of fighter that did take on anybody and came to fight, a true fan favorite and peoples champion. Kind of Jake la Motta.

Well the main names that stick out on his resume at the moment are

    Kotsa Tsyzu - TKO win
    Floyd Mayweather - KO loss
    Paulie mallignaggi - TKO win
Jose Luis Castillo - KO win

So a Manny Pacquaio Victory would of course be a great achievement and the best win in all of his fights however until he beats Mayweather hes still going to be in his shadow

Hatton has an impressive record in my opinion as it is, he has beaten several other world champions at 140lbs (Tyszu, Maussa, Urango, Malignaggi) he won a title at 147lbs (Collazo) beat a great boxer in Castillo (although slightly past his prime) plus he has wins over several good contenders (Lazcano, Oliveira, Tackie and Phillips)

He has a good resume, he hasnt done what a lot of the champions are doing at present and just padding his record on mandatorys and not unifying.

A win against Pacman would cement him as a great, too many people want to discredit his win against Tyszu but I think thats unfair as he was still a great fighter at the time in my opinion.

A Pac win would be very good, but not great because Pacquiao is moving up in weight (not technically, but for all intents and purposes) for the fight.

Mayweather gets little credit for the Hatton win because Hatton was moving up, so I don't see Hatton getting much credit if he beats Pacquiao because he's the naturally bigger guy.

if Hatton loses he is sort of remembered as a opponent to Mayweather and Pacman and did not measure up to the elite. If he wins he is remembered for an upset and he is automatic HOF.

Would that really be considered an upset? As far as I know this is a pic em fight with pretty even money on both sides. If anything Hatton is the favorite because of his size.

The feeling I have is that Pacman is pretty much the favorite. Because of the Delahoya fight people assume that Manny can handle the weight well. Pacman is faster and counterpunches well.

He's a natural 140 pound fighter taking on a brilliant, but natural 130 pound fighter.

Hatton should be favourite and I don't think beating smaller fighters does a whole heap for your legacy to be honest.

Add to that he beat an old relatively inactive Tszyu (one fight in three years) with every advantage (home ground and biased ref)...and lost on neutral grounds to a prime Mayweather.

Best at 140 ever? Not quite. I still rate Tszyu ahead of him as a minimum, Pryor and Chavez as well.
