Kelly matches PW's punch output, but he doesn't throw all of those arm punches, he sits down on them. This one isn't hard to predict. Winky tagged him repeatedly and PW has nothing to earn Pavlik's respect with.
Williams is as ready for Pavlik as he's going to be. No fight at 154 carries the same risk/ reward factor, and other than Abraham, there is no one else the public wants to see him in with at 160. I'd love to see the fight this fall.
This fight could have been shorter, but Jack kept telling Kelly, "Stick with the plan". Kelly had Rubio on the ropes a few times and simply backed off. Not something you usually see Kelly do. Little doubt he was carrying Rubio some for the home town crowd because they wanted to get some round in and give the folks their moneys worth.
You know I'm with ya' Herms, I was givin' Paul props for the win over Winky (who did NOT look all that shot and stuff). I also think he does look better physically at the weight, and less like a skeleton. But, Pavlik is the man. Still be nice to have another "big dog" in the 160 to spice it up a bit.
Paul/Goosen pulled out of the fight when offered. Pavlik had started to prepare for the Paul Williams fight. Goosen's excuse that Arum was taking money off the table after he agreed to the fight? atsch Arum had pretty much announced to the world their was $1.25 million available to the challanger.

I said something about Rubio having powder all over his sides and esp. underarms, thinking it would help with arms rubbing his sides (?)... Turns out, it is a skin disorder..
Just got back from a long walk. Catching up. I'll be gone for a couple days. Going to see someone in Dayton. Well, he is going to have a nervous 'tic' for the rest of his life after fighting Kelly to go with the skin disorder. :yep
did you know about the disorder?? I sure didn't, and it looks enough like he'd put talcum powder on his underarms. WTF, I had no idea.
All indications are that the power of Paul Williams is likely better - not just as good, but better, up at Middleweight. He hurt Winky Wright somewhat severely by Winky's standards early in their fight, and you guys know about the other appearance he's made at 160.. Regardless, he's not a knockout artist anywhere, and Quintana at 147, Martinez at 154, and Abraham (as well as Pavlik) at 160, have a strong likelihood of beating him, IMV.
It's why I'm having a little bit of a hard time buying the "Pavlik walks right through him" line. Win or lose, there's a live chance Williams can earn enough respect to keep distance. People forget that tall fighters give the illusion of throwing looping shots, but that they are getting a ton of leverage on them. I could see in the Phillips fight that Williams was learning how to crank his gawky ass into his punches, and he's done nothing but improve since.
#1 - I don't know why you quoted me and went on to talk about boxing politics. It has absolutely nothing to do with what I said in my post that you quoted. #2 - You quoting Bob Arum on his side of what happened doesn't carry much weight with anyone except those who already stand clearly on one side of the issue. I have a pretty clear understanding - make that extremely clear understanding - of a very different version of what you say happened. But I'm not going to get into a game of "he said" especially when it comes to boxng promoters. Regardless of what any of the Pavlik fans are saying, I have good reason to belive that Paul can and will give him yet another boxing lesson.
I disagree. He doesn't get hit any more often than anyone else in the sport. It's boxing. Fighters don't land an exhorbent amount of punches against him. Look at the punch stats. And the type of boxers that hit him are those who are just that - boxers. KP is a plodder with very little speed. Not the same. paul would do a much better job of staying out of his way than he did against Quintana and Winky. And against Pavlik, of course he would not have a huge height advantage. When was the last time Pavlik fought someone who he didn't have a huge height advantage over? I don't recall him ever fighting a 6'3" southpaw...:huh They both lose advantages they're used to. What's the difference?
