this guy is a world champion and he keeps fighting limited opposition. i mean his next opponet is koji sato 14-0 with 13 kos he is from japan. Koji hasnt fought any one to deserve a title shot. Sturm is just hand picking nobodies to fight. i hope it back fires and koji knocks him out. but when is sturm gonna show why he is a champion and fight some good.

I think a lot of it has to do with licensing from certain governing bodies.Thats thr trouble with not seeing fighters Sato maybe a nother Monzon!:happy

He epitomizes the difference between a champion and a titlist...I have often been pretty harsh on Felix and I dont think its without good reason but really he is just a titlist doing what he can and trying to make some money.

"Sato another Monzon".. .wow that couldnt be further from the truth, I mean there is enough film of Koji out there to see he is very limited.
I will put a little bit of coin on him for the KO win though because there is more in common with Sato and Castillejo & Masoe whom gave Felix a tough time, then there is with guys like Sylvester and Pittman..its a long shot and I dont expect it to happen but at $10 its worth a flutter.

Strum is the ultimate paper champion right now... he punked right out of that AA fight, which would have been huge in Germany,,, saying he was too good for Abraham?

I want to see him fight at least 1 more guy I've actually heard of before he retires. WTF? :fire:deal:fire

I think he is holding out for more money in the case of the AA fight.

He has been offered a lot of cash to fight him but I have heard some who know German boxing say he isnt unreasonable in expecting more because I think it was only like twice as much as he makes for a usual defense...and for a superfight you would think he could get more..especially one where he is going to get absolutely molested in.

Sturm is a joke, as previous posters have said, he is the ultimate paper champ, theres nothing worst in boxing than fighters who duck quality opposition and never challange themselves.

sturm is an enigma to me...after the de la hoya fight kind of introduced him to world boxing fans, we should not forget he really rattled off some excellent and impressive victories before getting ko'd by javier castillejo. he fought robert frazier, hacine cherifi, burt schenk, jorge sendra and maselino masoe, in that order. he even looked to make strides in terms of pulling the trigger and going after a guy in those figths. that list of fighters is, to me, a lot more impressive than those that came after the jaw-cracking loss to castillejo.

it's not that sturm looked as if the ko loss took anything big away from him...he still looked the accurate, well-conditioned, sharp technician he did before, he just didn't fight anyone worth a damn until sebastian sylvester and made every mistake in terms of fighting the wrong fight against real second-raters like noe alcoba and randy griffin (twice)...the only time he looked the old sturm, in my opinion, was against the somewhat limited gavin topp...but at least he didn't fight down to topp's level.

sturm gave an excellent performance on the world stage against oscar de la hoya--i'm not going to debate whether he won or lost, but i think we can all agree he looked like he had something legitimate going on--then he got stopped after getting repeatedly and strangely lazy with his back to the ropes over and over until it cost him his title and a broken jaw.

sturm did look excellent to me against sebastian sylvester who had recently brutally knocked out castillejo himself. sturm recognized where the big-punching sylvester was dangerous and boxed stylishly and slickly around those points until he had lured sylvester into punching himself out for good around the tenth and taking all the last ditch hail mary's out of his mitts.

but now this kaji sato thing? more randy griffin crap, and i expect sturm to struggle against a guy, sato, who looks a natural welterweight or 154-pounder, at most. sato is slow, plodding, persistent but with a hugely limited arsenal and a turtle shell defense that covers up well but stalls his offense so completely it can grind the fight to a halt. oh yeah, and, despite his record, sato is no big puncher, to say the least. sturm defnitely should have taken the fight with abraham...he would have had a reasonable chance of winning if he brought a slightly more active, slightly more circular moving version of the game plan he used to dominate sylvester. i still think that abraham would probably pull it out one way or another, but sturm, i think, has the tools to beat abraham if he fights the right fight. why he lost several million dollars and a lot of credibility not taking it...i guess maybe the knockout loss to castillejo dies harder than i think.

sturm was extremely hyped here a few years ago. he has never never impressed me. de la hoya was awful in their fight and carried to much weight thats the only reason sturm looked good in that fight. all he did was jab, nothing else.

I think Sturm has more pure boxing skill than Pavlik or Abraham. I don't think he can beat either one because 12 rounds is a really long time when you're trying to keep AA from landing a bomb, or trying to Keep Pav from trapping you on the ropes. However, it would be nice if the guy would at least try to fight top level opposition.

agreed, about sturm's ability meeting his vulnerabilities against either pavlik or abraham. sturm has shown that he can really be dominant technically for several rounds without taking the stuff out of a guy enough to take them away from launching a massive shot and landing it. and, no disrespect to javier castillejo, but he was already way over the hill by that time, over of his best weight, and never a huge hitter at any point in his career. castillejo is a tough, persistent ******* who has earned his veteran stripes all the way, but if he can get to sturm with a few shots, one shot would do major, atomic damage from pavlik or abraham...whatever else i have said about those two, they can hit like crazy, no doubt about that.
