David Haye was an undisputed Cruiserweight champion. Cruiserweight is not necessarily a strong division either. His best wins at Cruiserweight were Mormeck, Fragomeni, and I guess Enzo Maccarenelli although he has been exposed as a complete Glass Jawed joke.

At Heavyweight he has beat Bonin and Barrett. That is it.

Can anyone remember a fighter in history being as hyped as much as Haye is right now?

I can't really think of any. Haye has done nothnig in the Heavyweight Division.

Wladimir Klitschko before getting derailed by Corrie Sanders.

In a different era, maybe Tommy Morrison, but everybody knew what Morrison's limitations were after fighting Mercer, but he continued to be ever popular.

    One things for certain:

In Wladimir's 25th professional fight, he was stopped by Ross Puritty.

In Haye's 24th professional fight, he's facing the best heavyweight in the world after cleaning out the cruiserweight division.

There have been plenty of fighters with the same hype, some have been successful, some haven't its just the way it is.

Its good to see poeple excitied about a heavyweight title fight though - its been ages!

Haye is being hyped because this is the first heavyweight title fight in YEARS that the public gives a damn about, and that is a good enough fight on paper that they SHOULD actually give a damn about it.

Most hyped ever? Not by a long shot.

I am not so sure. Some people are saying Haye is the most powerful puncher and has the fastest hands in the Heavyweight Divison. The guy has had 2 Heavyweight fights against mediocre opposition. Yet people are saying he is the best fighter in the Division? :huh

Yes Grant is a great example I forgot about him. I still remember Ring Magazine putting him on the cover and acting like he was going to smash Lennox Lewis.

Think you hit the nail on the head. Haye deserves some hype for what he does in such a short space of time.
He hasnt wasted anytime padding his record, hes taken fights way ahead of time, and for that alone he deserves some respect.
