I was talking to Finito on another thread and realized that manny isn't really very popular in Japan or Korea, according to him. I guess he is more popular in the U.S. than he is in other countries, aside from the Philippines, in Asia. How popular has Manny become? I saw a youtube video with the entire celtics team in his locker room and shawn merriman eating a turkey with him. 24/7 I see Marky mark and batman rooting for him. He is starting to get recognized but it surprises me he isn't that popular in Asia being Asian.

Finito is my homeboy and all but never...Never...NEVER....Never listen to what he says in regards to Manny Pacquiao.
I can totally see what he is saying as truth. I know certain Asians look down on other Asians. Philippinos being darker, poorer, maybe less educated could be a looked down upon by Chinese, Vietnamese etc. people. Philippinoes I have met have been very humble yet proud. I just think Finito is caught up in it. I have read his posts calling Phiippinos peasants. Maybe to have a peasant be the best is not respected or accepted. Philippinos are down to earth but from hanging out with em, I know that their kindess is not weakness cuz I've never seen one take too much of my ****.
Pinoys goes abroad to work koreans, chinese, vietnamese goes to the philippines to study. true story... :deal
Japanese people are traditionally viewed as the most racist towards other asian cultures, a notion that wasn't helped by World War II and their actions in Nanking for example. That said - I'm sure fans of boxing in Japan would love Manny regardless of where he is from.
I dont know if Vietnamese are more educated than Pinoys. Sure we dont have World class universities but Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia doesnt either. At least English is well spoken in the islands.
Pacquiao doesn't speak english particularly well. I think he would be more popular if he did. What is fresh in my mind about koreans is the Roy Jones olympic fight where Jones lost when he so more than obviously won. I can see how Koreans can have a misconscrewed view of being better than others when they are not. I can see his view that he thinks Korean and Japanese fighters were historically better than Philippinoes, when the record shows otherwise. By far fighters like Elorde, Villa , espinosa, pacquiao etc and the like were more accomplished than any Korean fighter that has fought outside of Korea. Im sure there are Philippine champions that have had outstanding records that have probably never left the Philippines but If you argue that they are the best you really don't have a leg to stand on. He says chang is the best that ever fought in his division but he hasn't beat anybody. I can see how Korean can see he is the best because he beat other Koreans that were highly regarded in Korea and viewed as the best in Korea. How well they would've done outside Korea is what boxing history will look back and judge fighters.
I dont think Finito can argue that Filipinos aren't the best Asian boxers. Besides the long drought from the late 70's thru the 90's. Villa, Elorde, Garcia (who originated the Bolo punch), Villaflor. The problem with Finito is that the underlying sentiment in all his arguments is that Korea>Philippines
