I'm a Brit based boxing fan but my views expressed on this up-and-coming fight are based on my observation of both fighters over the years.

Last start by saying that Carl hasn't consistently fought the same level of opponents as Taylor.

Now to some measured analysis of both fighters attributes beginning with Taylor:

There is no question that Taylor posesses boxing acumen, speed and has decent pop in his punches. Notably he has won very close fights against hopkins and wright and on the balance of things has deserved these narrow victories.

However, Taylor's losses to Pavlik not only dented his credentials but, for me personally, laid bare what I believe is this fighters greatest deficiencies; that is an inability to slug it out toe for toe against an evenly matched opponent who is prepared to stand right in front of him, and an inability to make adjustments as he's fighting.

    Froch:

Has been nurtured carefully for some time now (2 to 3 years) and his defining fight came against Pascal who he overcame to lift the WBC super middleweight title. It was a heck of a fight, both fighters gave and shipped a lot if punishment and Froch marginally came out on top, but deservedly so. In Froch's defence he has always openly sought the toughest - or most meaningful - fights with his peers but there hasn't been many takers over the years.

Froch is a competent boxer who possesses "respect" inducing punches. He's always displayed just a little bit more than his opponents to suggest that he is puposeful about what he is doing in the ring and thus far is unbeaten. He's greatest weakness - in my opinion - is his consistent willingness to lay it all on the line for the sake of saying "I'm tougher than you" when he doesn't need to. He's also not the quickest super middleweight and can throw wide off-target punches.

    To the Fight:

By Froch's standards he's been pretty much respectful to Taylor - when compared to his normal verbal disparaging of an opponent - in their verbal exchanges leading up to this fight, which suggests that there is a genuine acknowledgement of what Taylor brings to the table. Taylor on the other hand is talking a talk that doesn't accord with his recent displays in the ring and to a large extent he has dismissed Froch as being a nobody.

The outcome of this fight will be decided by just how superior Taylor's skill set is to Froch's, and to what extent Taylor can keep this fight at a distance - it's his only chance at victory and you can quote me.

Froch isn't too difficult to hit but will return fire with potency. I seen him stunned but never rocked. Froch will look to wear Taylor down and take him into the trenches and unload heavy punches. My prediction is a knockout or TKO for Froch, probably the latter with Taylor refusing to come out for another shell lacking from a "nobody" opponent.

    And still the WBC..........

Nice, well thought out post. Hope your prediction is right as it's pretty much the way I see it.

Just based on the way these two guys fight I think we are in for another contravercial Taylor decision or a slim Froch UD.

Froch likes to stay out of range and counter his opponent. Jermain Taylor likes to flury with more speed and less power. So I can see this fight looking a lot like the hopkins fights where in some peoples minds Taylor's activity wins him the rounds where as in other people's minds Frochs cleaner harder punches win him the rounds.

You noted Taylor's so called inabiity to slug it out against Pavlik. That's not actally what happened. The first fight was a nip and tuck pier 6 brawl for the first 3 rounds. After round 3 Pavlik's corner told him to stop swinging for the fences and start measuring with the jab, the fight tuned into something a bit more tactical, and Pavlik took over. The second fight was never a brawl. That version of JT would tear Froch up. Carl Froch is no Kelly Pavlik.

In addition I don't see where you are really taking Taylor's vastly superior speed into account. All Jermain needs to do is blister and move, keep Froch swinging at the places he used to be for the first 8 rounds. After that, when Taylor's known stamina issues might come into play, all JT needs to do is fire off quick 3-4 punch combinations, and then clinch. If he'll stick to a fight plan like that, he'll win an embarassingly wide UD.

I don't think this fight is a foregone conclusion at all. Taylor looked sharp, fast with his combinations and just excellent over all in his last fight against Lacy. Froch had a close brawl with Pascal. Bring it on!

i aint a big froch fan but what if he's the real deal and ko's taylor way more convincingly than pavlik did. I know he probably isnt and wont . Its just i think he must be very confident to go to the states to fight a very good fighter in only his first defense. I have it 60/40 taylor but lets wait and see

    Taylor didn't beat Wright.

You are clearly ignoring the number of comments by Froch that he will "smoke Taylor's boots," and how he basically labeled him a coward for six months prior to signing the fight. If that's what you call "respectful" comments toward one of the best resuméd fighters active in the sport, you are clearly delusional.

Taylor has only said he had never heard of Froch until recently, and that many people he talks to in the US have never heard of the man. These are facts, and understandably so. If you consider that kind of talk to be Taylor's mouth writing checks his ass can't cash, you again are showing some obvious bias toward your man Froch.

most fighters would do that at the drop of a hat which is why promoters can be both good and bad for a fighter.
it's a fight that offers more for froch if he wins than for taylor though, and froch is a lucky man to have taylor come knocking on his door.

the truth is that froch hasn't done anything siginificant to warrant interest from proven fighters stateside but good luck to him.

I don't know how this fight is going to play out. I think it really all depends on how Taylor uses his jab.

Taylor's jab has changed post-Hopkins. Look at Taylor's jab pre-Hopkins and you see a hard stiff jab. Then in the Hopkins fight, Hopkins countered him over the jab well. For the most part since the Hopkins fight you see a lazy pawing jab. Part of that was also Steward's fault as well.

If Taylor comes out with that hard stinging jab in Froch's face and follows it up with the right hand, he can win the fight on the outside comfortably. If he does that pawing jab crap where he paws with it and waits for Froch to come inside more before hitting him with the right, Froch is going to KO him.

I lean towards Froch, but, it is more in my lack of trust in Taylor making that pick. I think Taylor is the more talented fighter, but, I don't trust him to use his talents to their full abilities.

Froch is not a lucky anything. He got a belt in the division, all Taylor has done is beaten a shell of Jeff Lacy. They need each other. Taylor needs to prove he is the same fighter he was at middleweight by beating a top contender, Froch needs a name like Taylor on his resume.

This fight is far from a "forgone concusion" as the topic would suggest. I don't know what you could be looking at to see that kind of difference in level between the two.

Bad intentions your mental. - "froch is a lucky man to have taylor come knocking on his door"
Froch has been calling Taylor out for the last year or so and Taylor purposely avoided fighting Froch for the vacant title, opting instead to fight Lacy in an eliminator for the same title he could have fought for in the first place.
Now i'm not saying Froch will win or that taylor is scared or whatever i'm simply dismissing your claim that Taylor has come looking for this fight, because Sir, it's simply not true
