froch called out calzaghe way before taylor but he never got it. just like witter calling out hatton, kessler calling out winky and hopkins, and calzaghe calling out jones and hopkins way back when. i've just explained exactly why and how this works but if you don't agree then tell me why the froch - taylor fight is the exception?
I'm not saying its the exception i'm saying your giving Taylor far too much credit for making this fight.
TFFP's point is true when he says there aren't any 'kingpins' at 168 so what froch has achieved counts, obviously. but guys like froch and kessler aren't going to get fights of the calibre of taylor while they fight in europe against b-graders. that's just a fact and it takes some luck (like this situation) for a euro based fighter to get a fight like this which will make people on the other side of the pond sit up and take notice if froch wins.
Getting back to the OP, this fight isn't a "foregone" conclusion at all. Froch has a tricky style and Taylor isn't the best strategic thinker. Add to that the fact that Froch is the puncher here and Jermain can be drawn into sloppy fights, and we've got an interesting matchup.
No you're right. Taylor is obviously (and rightly so) the draw here. But it's down to Froch winning the belt and then repeatedly calling Taylor out that the fight has been made not the other way round. It's an interesting fight though I think
i agree. for me it's another nail in the coffin of team kessler too that they haven't once tried to capitalise since the calzaghe fight and everything has been a backwards slide since then. froch deserves plenty of respect for taking this fight but it'll be important to see what happens to his career if he loses, because mogens palle was throwing top SMW contenders at kessler until he lost to calzaghe and since then it's been negative thinking all the way.
A nice sample of the comments Froch has made toward Taylor; make up your own mind if he has insinuated Taylor is a coward:
This fight could go either way,Taylor may be a class above Froch and could make Froch look silly.Maybe Taylor is taking Froch too lightly and perhaps Froch is too big and too strong for Taylor ? There are many arguments for and against both fighters.Froch is an unknown quantity at this level, and Taylor is an unknown quantity at this weight.Taylor is a class act and proven at world level,he has great skill, fast hands and good power, but he does like to control and dictate fights and when he cant he gets negative,he seems to have a game plan and if it doesn't work he seems unable to change tactics during the fight.Another thing that could go against Taylor is how easily he was hit during the first Pavlik fight,Pavlik threw a lead left then an overhand right and caught and hurt Taylor time and time again using the same tactic yet Taylor seemed unable to avoid this most basic of combinations.Froch is far more unorthodox than Pavlik and in my oppinion has more power. The Lacy fight proved nothing,Lacy is a shell of the fighter he was before fighting Calzaghe,Calzaghe ruined Lacy and if memory serves me correctly the US media said Joe was a no hoper as he'd "fought nobodies" and never ventured outside of the UK.sound familiar ? Froch really is stepping into the unknown on Saturday night,he has never fought at this level and may come unstuck in a big way.Not only is he fighting a very good opponent in Taylor, but is also 3000 miles from home and unlikely to have the sort of support that Hatton and Calzaghe have had whilst fighting stateside. His defence is questionable at best (left hand held at waist height) and should he adopt this tactic against Taylor he'll pay dearly, although im sure Carl isn't so stupid and will be far more disciplined in the defence dept.Froch also has a tendency to try and "tough it out" in fights and neglect his gameplan, as seen in the Pascal fight.Plus points for Froch are, good boxing skills (when he chooses to use them) good power,a solid chin, and an iron will,im certain he would not have taken this fight unless he thought he could win. If i were a gambling man id keep my money in my wallet,i will not be surprised by any outcome on Saturday night.Lets hope its a good fight and may the best man win.:good
