There are several occurrances throughout his career but your absolutely right about Miguel imposing his will...this is his greatest strength yet he has shown that he can also outbox, prime example would be the Sugar bout where Cotto "adatped" by using angles and boxing off the backfoot, timing Shanes aggressivness and countering effectively. Some posters defined this out of the norm behavoir as "running" while others like myself saw this as yet another facet to Cottos technical game.

amen...not cuz im PR or anything but watching that fight over and over, i have yet to see how people can say Mosley won that bout. it was close, sure but like most people, they judge fights based on aggressiveness and Mosley was the aggressor but Cotto clearly landed the better punches but w/e

Timothy Bradley got knocked down, got right back up and then took the knee in order to get an 8 count like he was instructed to. The first knee that Cotto took seemed strategical. However, the second knee gave a clear signal to the ref and his corner that he didn't want to fight anymore. The two scenarios really aren't comparable. One guy was trying to give himself time to recover, the other was trying to signal that he wanted the fight to end. The ironic thing is that many Cotto fans derided Judah for taking a knee vs. Cotto.

He's won other fights more impressively, but that was probably Cotto at his best. You don't outbox Shane Mosley unless you are an incredibly sound fighter, and Cotto did it without the physical advantages Vernon and Winky did.

Even in that fight though, it looked to me like Cotto came out with a gameplan, executed it, got tired and allowed Shane back into the fight, then executed the same plan effectively when he caught his second wind.

No point arguing over words though. I'd just call him versatile before I'd say he adapts well.

dont think cotto is a man of excuses for the longest time when margarito was being accused cotto was still humble in saying that margarito was the better man that night

i agree. the thing i like about cotto is he's still just a fighter who wants to fight. maybe being an introvert helps him to keep his feet on the ground but his attitude and character are as sound as they come.

Nobody should use this excuse being that people talk all kinds of crap about Floyd for beating Baldomir instead of someone else when Baldomir is the champ.

I dont know why cotto is taking this fight but if he wins he surely Earns my respect. I would like o see cotto KO him because I Question his power after seeing how long alphonso stayed around.
