Gamboa doesn't have a glass jaw, so those predicting an early stoppage are way off the mark. Would you accuse Aaron Pryor of having a glass jaw, as in his early fights against overmatched opposition he went down frequently and reacted the same way Gamboa does, no effect and ready to fight. JuanMa is one of the hardest hitters P4P, but none of his opponents bar Ponce has turned up to win, it's as simple as that, and you'd have to believe that Gamboa could stand and fight for longer than Cesar Figuoera (especially 4 lbs north)

In his last fight I think Gamboa was very impressive. He has been into the 10th round three times now and shown no stamina issues.

The southpaw style would not bother him as his quick right hand counter can tag JuanMa all night.

JuanMa vs. Gamboa would be a 50-50 fight due to the invariables.

For JuanMa; how does he adjust to the extra 4 lbs. IMO he adjusts just fine, I actually think he will be even better once he moves up. How is he gonna' deal with someone taking him rounds and punching him back (we will hopefully see a massive indication of this against Penelosa this weekend)

For Gamboa; No.1, and most importantly, can he stick and move and be aggressive in spurts without getting caught, and if so, can he take it? Can he hurt JuanMa, who hasn't shown any indication of a weak chin thus far.

I honestly see a tactical battle for the first five or six rounds, with both guys giving each other respect. I see Gamboa getting knocked down but piling on the punches late on to take late stoppage. JuanMa can come back fine and Gamboa can do what he was doing originally, move up to 130.

To be fair, I'd be happy with either guy winning, one thing it shows is that when Mosley, Pac, Marquez, Hatton (and now Floyd has gone) hang up their gloves, their are still intriguing fights between fighters on the cusp of superstardom that could tip one fighter over into that sort of respect.

The winner of JuanMa vs. Gamboa could be the next generations defining fighter.

makes a wonderful fight if these two meet. but i gotta go wit juanma cuz he is fundalmental and gamboa will have flaws that juanma will make hiim pay for. now the question is can they both take each others punch gamboa has been down but never hit wit power like juanma and juanma has fought a strong fighter like del leon and did fine but gamboa has fought better opposition too so it makes a great fight but juanma is my pick cuz of his technique

Not too impressed with Gamboa as I am with Juanma. Juanma will make a major statement this weekend if he stomps Penalosa.

What JuanMa has which could win him the fight is good timing. If he catches Gamboa coming in it could be lights out for the Cuban, however, Gamboa throws so fast and if he launched into a flurry after landing with an overhand right after slipping a jab then JuanMa could be in trouble. If Gamboa does this and gets back out rather than going for the kill, he could A) wear JuanMa down or B) win rounds.

Also, because of the flash KD's he has suffered, people have neglected to look at how good Gamboa is at slipping shots, and at shipping shots (he's been hit flush quite a few times in his career, an early fight against Gilberto Luque, towards the end of the first round Gamboa is hit with some mean looking hooks with his chin hanging out and it doesn't budge or dissuade him.

Now, JuanMa's timing, accuracy and power will cause Gamboa many more problems like the likes of Gilberto Luque, Al Seeger, Adailton De Jesus and Rojas, but I think we will have to see how JuanMa fares on Saturday (presuming that Penelosa can last a fair few rounds with JuanMa, frustrate him and fight with him etc etc) to see how he would fare if Gamboa is more patient and sticks and moves, whether JuanMa gets rattled(especially considering the firepower coming back at him, let's not forget that Gamboa is a serious hitter too, and arguably faster) or whether he keeps and composure and lands consistantly hard and accurate shots.

My own prediction is that JuanMa will be 7-3 up when Penelosa is saved in the 11th round without being truly sparked but looking on his way to being K.O'd.

Until then, I stick by my original prediction for this sure to happen 'fantasy fight'.

If Gamboa beats Caballero I will be seriously impressed, as he will still be a formidable challenge at 126. Caballero is a very hard puncher and awkward as Hell, but I think Gamboa can stop him late, even though Celestino posesses a decent set of whiskers. I wouldn't be surprised if Caballero has a slight lead towards the end, as I think Gamboa will struggle to find his rhythm in the early going.

Hope that JuanMa gets a chance to fight either Rafael Marquez or Israel Vasquez before he moves up, as he deserves a chance to prove himself the premiere 122 lber in this packed division. Let's hope Izzy and Rafa aren't completely shot by their battles and get to have an exciting fight with JuanMa before he moves up.

Lopez vs. Gamboa is the ****, and the promoters will build it up to an awesome rivalry. You can't find 2 better punchers in the lower weight classes, it's like the Vazquez-Marquez of the FW division. My personal opinion is that Caballero will be even stronger at FW and maybe faster (like Paul Williams when moved up), and based on boxing styles, IMO he'd give an even tougher fight to Gamboa than FW World Champ Chris John, who's a better technician and a bit faster, but with little power to keep Gamboa at bay. Caballero can bang hard, box, brawl, and he's got the Williams like physique which is a headache for every fighter, especially a guy with extremely short hands and short on pro fights. Realistically speaking John should be slighly favored, and Caballero should be favored a bit more vs. the current Yuri.

Of course Caballero is the unified champ at SBW, ranked higher than JuanMa and (for some reason I don't understand), holds the P4P#9 place at The Ring. If JuanMa beats Penalosa and moves on to defeat Vazquez or Marquez (both fighters should be the favorite) JuanMa-Gamboa could go for a top5 P4P place, which is stunning given how fast they rushed into the elite.

But as I've said, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Penalosa is more than a test, he's a tough dude with excellent countering skills, good power, stamina and a superb chin, so I too would wait for the result before making a prediction here, although at the moment, Lopez should be favored.

I agree with you. If JuanMa beats Penelosa and then Vasquez or Marquez people will be putting him in their top ten P4P (a lot of guys say JuanMa is about 11/12 now so it's not that much of a stretch)

Similarly, considering how good he is to watch as well (his skill is clear to see) wins for Gamboa over Chris John (very well-respected fringe P4Per, long reigning champion and undefeated) and Caballero (awkward and avoided, dangerman, good boxer, previously unified World champion by the time he moves up) then Gamboa should surely crack the top 10 P4P too.

So, as you say BigBone, JuanMa vs. Gamboa, the battle of undefeated lower-weight punchers who have actually beaten some great opposition between them, woul make huge money and solidify one of these guys as the current guy who is on the way to true greatness.

If onyl boxing was this simple :good
