Margarito walked through a hail of flush punches to his head to get to Cotto, we all saw that and it was amazing. What Im wondering is did that pummeling affect Margo's ability to take a punch going into the Mosley fight? I didnt get a chance to see the full fight, only caught the knockout.

Everyone's punches softened Margarito for Mosley. It still would have been an ass whooping though.

Margarito has been dramatically slowing down, clearly, since Cintron II.

Nope, Mosley just proved he's a harder puncher that Cotto. I've been saying this for the longest. I even had a topic on this matter before Cotto vs Mosley happened.

No it wasnt just Cotto, it was 2 years of fighting the best welter weights fighting the way Margarito fights with no ****ing defense, then to come into this fight out of shape against a proven world class fighter like Mosley he got his ass handed to him.

It could not have been great for his longevity that fight...he took a fair bit of punishment against Cotto.

I think the weight may have played a bigger role then that however...but the biggest factor is that Shane was just better suited to deal with Tony and he showed that.

We will see if Marga comes back...at welter and still has something left.

I'm sure Margarito's mental state was not too sound being caught with the wraps before the fight.

Dude this was reported on FNFs the week after he lost to mosley it was reported by the guy from Solo Boxeo~

Link? Nah I dont have one but I am sure Freddy and the rest of the world saw this, but I am sure some people were more focused on the wraps but yes this was reported

it is an excuse, a valid one, but still as a pro you should know better than to come into camp that heavy let me see if I can dig up a link.

Yeah, I can confirm this. Bernardo Osuna claimed Margarito had to lose 30+ pounds on FNF.

Anywho, as far as Cotto softening up Margarito for Mosley, I'd say to an extent. But Margarito also absorbed a decent amount of punishment throughout his career, even in fights he was winning. Cintron, Clottey, and Williams also dished out their fair share of punishment and played a part in Margarito's demise.

One of the guys who runs Fightbeat.com claims Margarito almost got KO'd a few times in sparring before the Mosley fight and looked really bad.
