margarito spent his entire career walking through huge shots...i am not sure that cotto could lay much more claim to softening up margarito's will or his body than anyone else who has spent a night, win or lose, beating margarito about the head and face. despite getting brtually beaten up antonio diaz unloaded huge shots on margarito flush. daniel santos, josh clottey and paul williams also laid a lot of leather on margo. hell, in back to back fights early in his career margarito ate scores of rough, hard shots on the inside from juan soberanes and horatio garcia. victor lozoya connected with big, direct shots regularly for six rounds in an early decision victory over margarito at lightweight and lozoya had heavy hands. point is, cotto didn't seem to do any more damage than a host of other fighters. margatito went down because mosley beat the hell out of him with short accurate punches for several rounds then swam out to hail mary country when he had margo hurt and let massive, but well timed, well aimed bombs fly that landed with regularity until margarito crumbled. mosley's accuracy and timing is what did margarito in. shane has all the intangibles of a truly legendary fighter and they were all in full force against margo...that's the story, i think.
Your going to look like Dog **** when you **** with your weight like that, which is excactly why I think Cotto looked vunerable in fights at 140 the weight was killing him and he was getting rocked easier it seemed but once he moved up to welter that went away.
i would be very surprised if that espn report was accurate...i saw margo in l.a. about three months before the fight and he sure didn't look like he weighed in excess of 185 pounds to me. he looked 160-165, which is around his usual 'walking around' weight is. unless he gained some 25-30 pounds in a month, that sounds a bit questionable...and margarito certainly wasn't out of shape coming into the fight. all the training footage released of him training for the mosley fight never showed him nearly as heavy as you say, even the early camp footage...so how is this possible? ricky hatton must never have been in shape for a single fight in his career if dumping weight in camp means you aren't in shape come fight time. i mean, it is a detriment to training to have to scoop off that much weight, no doubt about that, but it doesn't qualify a guy as neccessarily out of shape come fight night.
Bingo. I wasn't aware of any wrongdoing during his ring entrance yet he looked really distracted to me and not his usual smiling relaxed self. I can imagine what was going through his mind after getting caught. There were also rumors going around prior to the fight that Margo spent most of the camp trying to make weight and suffered several injuries as well. Then his longtime trainer gets busted for loading his wraps so it all makes sense to me. He should go up to 154 if he ever gets his license back.
Of course he did . And no disrespect to Shane cause his style woulda did damage no matter. But when two men beat each other like that you won't be the same. Everyone knows Marg won but he went through fire and brimstone to do so.
i tend to trust what bernardo osuna says explicitly, the guy has his **** straight and rarely mis-reports anything...he gets his facts first-hand, so i suppose, despite how unlikely it seems, that's probably true, one way or another.
i would say so. he's taken a lot of punishment throughout his career. the shots he was taking from cotto were just unbelievable. flush shots straight to his jaw too. you could hear them way up in the stands. i still don't know how the hell he did it and stayed on his feet. when you take that many punches throughout your career you become kind of numb to it and you can gain the ability to walk through it. that's how fighters can end up with permanent damage or die. margarito was not expecting that shot from shane and it caught him off balance. but he was looking extremely tired/beaten up by that point anyways. then mosley dug deep and went beast mode on his ass while he was hurt and he was ****ed. such an awesome end to a fight. twice in a row for shane too.
Exactly but you know Marg Can still contend with the best, if his body still holds up. Any man who is not in physical greatness will have problems against him. (stamina) You have to beat the man for the whole fight, if not his will overpowers you. Some guys who aren't blessed with the physical gifts have nerves of steel
You just controdicted yourself with this post and your previous, he looked 160 - 165 to you when you saw him, but that is looking at him you didnt weigh the man, adn then you turn around in this post and say you trust what bernardo says okay well he is the guy who reported this, and he said Margarito had to lose 36 pounds meaning Margarito was about 190 comming in to camp, Not very good and to take off that much weight in that little time sorry but you can not possibly expect to win like that.
Well Hatton is a different person, with a different Genetic make up, he wont get away with it much longer thats for sure.
