You don't think they want to risk AA losing before he squares off against Pavlik right? They're playing it more than safe now. In his last fight he had serious weight/stamina problems.
We are suppose to get Pavlik/Abraham in November. In the mean time we get Pavlik/Mora and Abraham/Lorenzo. Obviously neither promoter wants to take any risks between now and November. That's a good thing. Don't forget that Pavlik's loss to Hopkins is the only reason we did not get Pavlik/Abraham in January '09. We do not need any more stumbling blocks to KP/AA. Rumor has it that Arum will show Abraham/Lornezo on tape delay just before Pavlik/Mora. That will introduce AA to the Pavlik fans who are not familar with him. This arrangement also gives Arthur several months to get his training and nutrition right, and hopefully resolve his weight issues. This is also a very good thing. I want Pavlik to leave a strong and healthy Abraham slumped on the canvass, not a sickly weight drained version.
Yeah he had 2 eliminators in a row but the thing is sanctioning bodies use to keep high ranking contenders high even after losing eliminators.
Did you see Marquez/McKart? I'm asking because it occurs to me that we may be being a little to hard on Lorenzo overs his loss to Raul. The consensus opinion was that McKart and Marquez were both shot to ****, but their fight did not look like a fight between shot fighters. It was pretty good, and made it obvious that Marquez still had a little something left in the tank. I do not think Lorenzo is anything special, but it may be that he just choked on the big stage. I fully expect Arthur to make short work of him, but all in all I think the plan for moving forward to Pavlik/Abraham is a good one. The best case scenario would be for KP and AA to both score highlight reel KO's in under 5 rounds, and come away looking like monsters to the average viewer.
I saw bits of it.Recently I watched it on youtube on a horrible version. After all the fight was on a crappy channel(FSN) but I thought both showed glimpses of looking their old selves and looked pretty sharp,2 old guys fighting usually make it look that way. Lorenzo ain't a bad opponent but he doesn't have anything over Abraham and suits him perfect.Abraham will murder him if he comes in shape. If he comes like with Simon things might get interesting.
Yeah. Like I said before, Marquez just 'out toughed' Lorenzo so that doesn't bode well for Lorenzo against Abraham.
Abraham should have a quick and easy night against Lorenzo. He is nothing special. Cant wait for Abraham vs Pavlik, sure hope it happens!
If Lorenzo does as well as Simon did, Uli Wegner will not let Arthur go near Pavlik. He said that version of Arthur would have no chance againsy KP, and he was right. I just hope Arthur can get his weight issues handled. If he doesn't, a hell of a lot of people will dismiss the actual history, and claim Pav ducked AA long enough for his weight to force him out of the division.
Well, I've said for a long time Kelly's people weren't going to let AA's weight dictate Kelly's career. Kelly thought he would have to move up soon after getting his title, but has found the motivation to do 160. I'm not sure how comfortably he makes it, but those 'every press conference' warnings have disappeared. I think Kelly is more likely to move up now to face better competition that because of weight forcing the issue. Look how long Hopkins did it when he was motivated. As soon as he lost the titles he went all the way up to LH.
This fight is going to be dreadful! Two natural counter punchers with low work rates that only fight in spurts. There is going to be so much posturing/feinting/waiting that it will put people to sleep. AA will probably knock him out after he decides its time to fight but expect a lot of non-action before it happens.
And the guy he beat in the second eliminator was a junior middleweight who got his ass kicked by Peter Quillin only two fights before that one. It was a bull**** eliminator bout if there's ever been one.
