Great by CW standards that is. I feel he just well may be. He certainly proved more then most Cruiserweights at HW. You can't fault a 190 CW with wins over the likes of McCall and Tucker. He had more then a little bad luck. Handily beating Bert Cooper until twisting his knee. Again injuring his knee against Tyson when he was hit after the bell. Should have been a DQ win. SD and MD losses. A draw against Jirov which many feel he won when he was 40 years old. Thoughts?
Great nah, solid good champion yes. He was slick and small and thats why he could compete at heavy, but he couldnt crack an egg.
My Father always said to me he thought Orlin was better than Terry. Whatever thats worth. I think Orlin belongs way up there when he was in his prime in the early 1990s. Very underrated.
Has, has been mentioned a Great Cruiserweight is an oxymoron (Holyfield being the exception to prove the rule) Norris did rebuild his career as a Cruiserweight no doubt, but I was there, that scary night on a Benn undercard, where Norris was flattened by Miller. And no disrespect to my American colleagues, you expect Norris to be allowed to box in the USA again, but I think the sport in Britain suffered a big black eye when the BBB of C gave him a licence to box in Britain again. It was like they (the BBB of C) spat on the graves of the fallen warriors of the 90s who gave their lives to this sport, so we could reflect and dramatically improve fighters safety.
Orlin Norris was ****ed over big time.... He was too big to make 190 with ease and he was too small at a weight of 208 to 212 pounds in the late 80s and early 1990s to be a serious force at heavyweight....... Plus, he was short like "Tua and Tyson," but had no punching power over 200 pounds.... All in all, Norris was a good boxer with skills, but he never settled into a division suited for him...... Not really. He wouldn't even be in my top 10. Jirov, Gomez, Haye, Holy, Toney, Mormeck, Nelson, Bell--even Adamek and Cunningham, are better than Norris at Cruiser.
I thought he should have won a few of his earlier heavyweight bouts. He did however seem to be a average cruiserweight. I thing the weight loss hurt him. He had no strength by the time he fought Nate Miller. It was before the 200lb cruisers. He would do better not having to make 190 or 195. google fightfranchise
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Norris fight Tony Tucker on the Hill-Hearns undercard?If it did occur I remember Norris getting robbed.
Don't forget his win over Greg Page too. His problem was not only his power, but he had a very short reach. There were some guys he just couldn't beat because of it.
