Don't think I've ever seen the guy fight... Seems like another remember of the Lost Generation, and lots of potential. Seemingly on the ass end of a lot of close decisions. 2 of his last three losses were a SD loss to Witherspoon and a MD loss to Orlin Norris. A SD loss to James Broad as well. He did manage to beat a undefeated Jeff Sims. Stan Ward, who beat Mike Weaver, and Larry Frazier. What kind of fighter was he, exactly?
No, but I had often heard references made to him while watching fights growing up. He was apparently a household veteran/journeyman who hung in there with some pretty respectable foes. I remember when Larry Holmes launched his comeback in '91, there was some talk about him possibly facing Larry Alexander as one of his first fights back.. Never came off though.
I don't personally recall the claim. Years ago, I saw Tim Witherspoon beat a cagey journeyman named Jeff Sims. I remember some of the commentary in that fight. Sims had lost to Alexander early in his career, while Withespoon had recently beaten him. No talk about any robberies were ever mentioned.
Looked to have his career on track after ko'ing Jeff Sims, but two fights later run into a young promising Super Greg Page followed by a young unheralded Mister Snipes. He was ok but NEVER ever in the class of the likes of even Snipes.
If I remember correctly, Page had to beat Alexander on the inside due to his eye swelling.Alexander, at best, was a average heavyweight.
Alexander was a tough club fighter, a pretty good "B" level fighter. He could test almost anyone, and on his best night, maybe beat someone in the top-20 (although Alexander's "better" nights were rare). As I recall, he was tall, solidly built, durable, could jab a bit, and had half decent power.

I remember in december 1985 larry alexander was flown into London to fight frank bruno. he failed a brain scan and was interviewed on tv and shown shadow boxing before being sent home and replaced by larry frazier who stood in against bruno. Alexander was shown working out in a gym. He looked tall and moved well in the gym like a reggie gross or buster douglas type. In those days there was no boxrec but I remember being suprised that his career continued in america. I became suspicious alexander had really been sent home for looking too tasty for frank in training because he strung along some good wins and won a nabf title.
